Job Overview

This is an exciting new post that will provide the opportunity to provide a high quality, evidence-based systemic psychotherapy service including clinical assessment, therapeutic intervention and consultation. The post-holder will work with individuals and families from our Community Mental Health and Early Intervention in Psychosis pathways using a systemic/family therapy approach, working under the supervision of a senior family therapist. The post-holder will also be encouraged to develop the position of family therapy within the wider MDT.

One half of the role will be in the North West Essex First Episode of Psychosis (FEP) Service, a small MDT supporting individuals experiencing a first episode of psychosis as well as their families and carers. The team consists of two clinical psychologists, an assistant psychologist, CPNs, social workers, support workers and a psychiatrist. Family Intervention is an important, NICE-recommended part of the treatment offer in early... psychosis and as such a Family Therapist will be a valuable addition to the team.

The other half of the role will sit in the Adult Community Psychological service. The referrals will come from the Specialist Community Mental Health teams as well as the 18-25 psychology team in the West.

The post-holder will be primarily based in Harlow although the team works across the West Essex region with other bases in Stansted and Loughton.

Main duties of the job
• Provide psychological systemic assessments of service users, utilising information from health, social care, education and employment contacts, as well as direct contact with the service user and their carers.
• To formulate and implement plans for systemic psychotherapy treatment and/ or management of the service user’s mental health problems based on appropriate conceptual frameworks and employing methods of efficacy.
• To be responsible for delivering evidenced-based systemic psychotherapy interventions for individuals presenting with a first episode of psychosis and/or co-existing mental health difficulties.
• To deliver consultation, supervision and training to other members of the MDT.
