Nch’ḵaỷ Development Corporation (NDC) was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation - Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw. Nch’ḵaỷ mandate is to develop, manage and own the active businesses of the Nation and was created to allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation. Our mission is to generate wealth and create prosperity from economic opportunities for current and future generations of the Squamish Nation. This role is offered to members first and the broader community if an appropriate application is unavailable. This position will mainly work out of Nch’ḵaỷ Head Office. Our Head Office is in North Vancouver, BC on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh(Squamish) Nation and its people.

Position Status

This is a Permanent Full-time.

Scope of the Position

The IT Director will manage and direct the company’s information technology (IT) operations, ensuring the department provides efficient and... effective technical support service and oversee all the IT functions at Nch’ḵaý.

With a solid technical background, the IT Director is responsible for managing the company’s technology operations and the implementation of new IT systems and policies.

A. Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities (includes cellphone program)

I. IT Strategy
• Develops and implements an IT strategy that addresses the known challenges of today and prepares for future growth.
• In collaboration with the CFO, analyze business and recommended technical solutions for users (Head Office and Entities) and clients. Ensures IT Portfolio is aligned with strategic business objectives.
• Leads analysis of the current technology and cybersecurity environment to detect critical deficiencies and, working closely with the senior management team, recommends solutions for continuous improvement.

II. Leadership
• Oversees the day-to-day operations of the IT department, including infrastructure, network, hardware, and software
• Meets with managers and staff to determine impact of proposed changes in hardware or software on computer operations and services to end users.
• Recruits and cultivates top IT talent, fostering a culture of professional growth and development within the team.
• Schedules, organize and assigns projects to members of the IT team.
• Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

III. IT infrastructure
• Facilitates the implementation of computer system needs for management and functional operations, and assists in the execution of projects and equipment acquisitions.
• Delivers support services for key back office and operational systems including our ERP and operational delivery systems.
• Oversees security of systems, networks, and enterprise information. Identifies and manages security risk and delivers mitigation where required.
• Analyzes IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs.
• Consults with software and hardware vendors and other established workers to solve problems related to technology.
• Partner with the CFO in the negotiation of contracts with consultants, technical personnel and vendors for services and products.

IV. Financial
• Works with the CFO to recommend and develop budget and staffing plans that are consistent with current and long-term objectives and policies.

V. Compliance
• Participates in the development, implementation, and monitoring of management information and network system policies and controls, including security protocols, to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance.
• Develops and implements policies and standard operating procedures for IT operations. These should be aligned with industry best practices and compliant with regulatory requirements.

VI. Reporting
• Create a framework for real-time reporting on key business metrics to report to the board members and executives.

B. Other
• Perform other duties as required.

C. Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor
• CFO

D. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
• Minimum 8 years’ experience working in IT operations, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
• University degree, preferably in computer science, engineering, business or a similar discipline is desirable. Relevant designations are an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of analysis, implementation and evaluation of IT systems and their specifications.
• Proven experience and skills in the management of vendors, developing risk based commercial frameworks, managing and monitoring vendors, and vendor relationship management.
• An energetic, critical thinking, and creative individual with high ethical standards.
• Experience working with First Nations an asset.
