The role of the Legal II Secretary is to provide secretarial support and professional and legal assistance to their assigned Deputy State's Attorney.Essential Functions:
• Open all cases handled by the State's Attorney's Office.
• Prepare legal pleadings at all levels of court cases...
• Prepare subpoenas for necessary court hearings.
• Prepare correspondence.
• Assist attorney in trial preparation.
• Copy and make available all discovery materials.
• Coordinate appointments with witnesses and victims.
• Answer phones.
• Organize files and anticipate needs before they arise.
• Order all evidence as needed.
• Keep database updated as court files return from court.
• Work with other departments, such as law enforcement and the courts to assure an efficient system.

• High school diploma or GED.
• No experience required but previous legal experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull and manual dexterity is needed to type, write, use a calculator, and answer telephone.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed.
Working Environment:
• Most work is performed indoors in an office where noise and interruptions often occur.
• Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines
