The paediatric neurology department at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital is a tertiary care facility for Cheshire, Merseyside, North Wales and wider areas in the North West. The Neurology and Neurosurgical Departments provide surgical and non-surgical treatment for spasticity and movement disorders both regionally and nationally for children up to the age of 18.
We need a suitably experienced Physiotherapist with a strong interest in children with cerebral palsy and movement disorders to join our specialist multi-disciplinary team. This post will support the clinical specialist physiotherapist, in conjunction with three Band 7 physiotherapists, two band 6 physiotherapists and 2 assistants
Knowledge of the management of patients with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions is required. Experience of liaison across various multi-agency teams, both locally and regionally, is essential.
This post encompasses paediatric neurology, neurosurgery and neuro-rehab. The post holder will... be expected to work with the physiotherapy neurology team and the MDT. Flexibility is essential to cover planned long days and occasional weekend/bank holidays. They will be part of the Physiotherapy service and may also be expected to take part in the weekend and on call rota, dependant on experience.
Responsible for: the assessment and management of patients requiring interventions including Botulinum toxin injections, Intrathecal Baclofen, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, and Deep Brain Stimulation. The post-holder will also be part of the neurology team delivering physiotherapy management for patients with neurological disorders, formulating comprehensive therapy management programmes to maximise outcomes.
Liaises with: in addition to physiotherapy colleagues, and the MDT team in Alder Hey, the post holder will liaise with various multi-agency teams, both locally, regionally, and nationally
Role Summary: To act as an autonomous practioner within a specialised paediatric physiotherapy service, providing physiotherapy assessment, treatment and ongoing physical management to children in a range of ward settings, outpatient departments and specialised clinics.
The post holder may rotate across the different specialities within the spasticity and movement disorder service. Each part of the service builds on previous experience enabling further development of clinical and managerial competencies. Manages own caseload and is responsible for a defined area of the service, working with and without direct supervision.
