The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The salary range for this classification is $3,345 to $5,249 per month.

The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $3,514 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Accounting Technician I

Position... Information

The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking an Accounts Payable Technician to perform accounts payable duties requiring general knowledge of financial record-keeping methods, procedures, and practices. The incumbent's primary responsibilities include processing payment requests, reviewing supplier accounts and providing customer service to suppliers and end-users.



Under the general direction of the Accounts Payable Manager, the Accounts Payable Technician will:

Process Payment Requests
• Review supplier invoices for compliance with policies and procedures.
• Follow up on errors or missing documentation; research any outstanding (unpaid) balances.
• Identify purchase order related invoices and properly match with corresponding invoice; reconcile discrepancies between PO & invoice.
• Ensure all business transactions are reasonable, appropriate, and consistent with policies and procedures; Obtain proper approvals and authorization for invoice payments.
• Create vouchers on a timely basis while ensuring a high level of accuracy.
• Work effectively with team members to resolve payment processing discrepancies.
• Audit data entry of other AP Technicians.
• Adhere to AP month close process.

Provide customer service to Chancellor’s Office departmental staff.
• Communicate with suppliers to research and resolve account discrepancies.
• Assist staff with questions on invoice payments, invoice processing, and required approvals.

Other Tasks Or Projects
• Perform other accounts payable projects and tasks as assigned.
• Review supplier records monthly.


This position requires:
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to one year of AP payment processing and responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the following knowledge and abilities.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Experience and understanding of full cycle accounts payable and invoice processing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve conflict with tact and diplomacy and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Working knowledge of MS Excel.
• Ability to prioritize workload and complete tasks on a timely basis.
• Ability to learn and adopt new software efficiently.
• Ability to understand and follow a wide variety of written rules, regulations, and policy guidelines.
• Familiar with processing travel claims/expense reports, 1099 reporting requirements, sales and use tax, and purchase order matching.
• Strong organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with PeopleSoft 9.2 or higher in the Accounts Payable module.
• Experience with Laserfiche.
• CSU experience.
• Experience with Jaggaer/Procure to Pay or similar software.
• Governmental accounting experience.
