Occupational Therapist

We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to work full-time, Monday to Friday, at a 20 bed short-term transitional reactivation unit located in Scarborough. This unit works in partnership with the local hospitals to help patients transition back to their home or community. The caseload will primarily be medical and orthopaedic cases.

The Occupational Therapist (OT) will provide OT assessment, intervention, education and discharge planning of patients in the areas of self care, productivity and leisure. The OT will practice in accordance with the Professional Standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and is a registered member of COTO.

The OT will become an integral member of the team. Through assessment, treatment, evaluation and consultation, the OT prevents, alleviates or minimizes dysfunction, enabling clients to achieve their maximum level of functional independence and facilitating their integration into... the home, community and workplace.

The OT will:
• Participate as a member of the interprofessional team with the purpose of assessing client needs;
• Provide assessment, program planning, treatment intervention and evaluation in the occupational performance areas of self care, productivity and leisure including cognition and community living skills;
• Collaborate with other care providers in providing patient centred care;
• Delegate responsibilities to the occupational therapy assistant;
• Prescribe of aids and assistive devices. The OT will either be an ADP Authorizer or will be prepared to become a registered ADP authorizer.
• Participate in program planning and development in professional, program and other initiatives supporting quality management and research;
• Demonstrate understanding of, compliance with, and commitment to, patient safety responsibilities and corresponding plans, policies and procedures in order to ensure a safe environment for patients.

The OT will provide:
• Initial assessment and related reporting
• Treatment planning including oversight of an Occupational Therapy Assistant
• Re-assessment every one (1) week or as deemed necessary by initial assessment
• Ensure treatment progression and continued improvement in function
• Discharge planning and related reporting, including collaboration with local community resources.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:
• Baccalaureate or Masters Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program;
• Member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario;
• Experience in a Rehabilitation or Acute Care Hospital setting an asset;
• Experience with discharge planning as asset;
• Assistive Devices Program Authorizer an asset;
• Demonstrated expertise with medical, orthopaedic, geriatric and neurological conditions preferred;
• Completion of ongoing post-graduate professional development;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work co-operatively within an inter-professional team;
• Excellent leadership, organizational skills and the ability to self-manage workload;
• Demonstrated critical thinking/problem solving skills;

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $45.00-$50.00 per hour
