The Metta Home for the Disabled and Metta Home Day Activity Centre were set up in December 2000 to offer community care options to adults with intellectual disabilities who are aged between 18 and 55.

Funded by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), the former is a purpose-built facility designed to accommodate 103 residents, whereas the latter is supported under the MSF and Tote Board Social Service Fund to provide day care services for a capacity of 50 beneficiaries. Our programmes aim to equip all recipients with the skills and means to lead independent and fulfilling lives, so as to achieve social integration and quality of life.

Tending them with holistic care and working closely with their primary caregivers to provide well-rounded support is a multi-disciplinary team comprising a social worker, training officers, staff nurses, assistant nurses, nursing and therapy aides.

As a Occupational Therapist (Sensory Integration), the candidate is responsible... in the following areas:

BROAD FUNCTION

1.1 To provide Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and appropriate intervention to Metta Disability Care clients.

1.2 To maximize the occupational therapy and functional potential of clients and improve their quality of life.

1.3 To work collaboratively with team members to provide a holistic and person-centred care management approach.

2. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1 CLINICAL

2.1.1 Utilizes appropriate assessment tools and instruments to diagnose regulation / sensory issues and processing disorders in clients, as well as other occupational therapy issues.

2.1.2 Develops treatment plans and provide evidence-based individual and group therapies for clients with motor coordination / sensory processing / Autism Spectrum and other developmental disorders.

2.1.3 Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This will include attending consultation with the clients, their family, ward staff and other outside agencies.

2.1.4 Maintains accurate and timely client records for purpose of documenting activities and therapy progress.

2.1.5 Instructs and supervises OT assistant in carrying out occupational therapy intervention.

2.1.6 Trains and educates carestaff in following through with occupational therapy intervention in absence of therapists.

2.1.7 Regularly monitors, obtains feedback and evaluates existing treatment or intervention plans to ensure efficacy of treatment/interventions.

2.1.8 Other tasks/duties assigned by Home Care Supervisor / Disability Care Manager.

2.2 PROFESSIONAL

2.2.1 To practice occupational therapy in a safe, and ethical manner.

2.2.2 Confidentiality: maintain absolute confidentiality in matters pertaining to the organization/department/clients. Clients records are always to be kept private and confidential in a secured storage area.

2.2.3 Be responsible for own's learning.

2.2.4 Participates in occupational therapy meetings, in-service training.

2.2.5 Responsible for training Therapy Aides and direct carestaff on therapy interventions.

2.2.6 Be responsible for OT students on internship within the organization.

2.2.7 To liaise with external services, statutory bodies and other VWOs as appropriate/when necessary.

2.3 ADMINISTRATION DUTIES

2.3.1 Keep accurate statistics.

2.3.2 To take responsibility for the maintenance and replacement of equipment in the OT service.

2.3.3 Carry out other tasks / projects which assigned by Home Care Supervisor / Disability Care Manager.

2.4 OTHERS

2.4.1 Perform duties assigned by Home Care Supervisor / Disability Care Manager.

2.5 HEALTH AND SAFETY

2.5.1 To work safely always, and to participate in health and safety programs.

2.5.2 To attend courses on CPR, Manual Handling and Fire Safety as required by the organization and professional bodies.

2.5.3 To read and understand the contents of "Infection Control Manual".

2.5.4 Staff must report and resolve incidents with his/her immediate reporting if they find that activities are not carried out correctly which may not benefit the clients.

2.5.5 To report all accidents or potential hazards to the reporting officer.

3. Requirements
• Experience More than 5 years working experience as an OT.
• Worked in a clinical setting serving persons with special needs, community care or nursing home.
• Qualifications
• Academic Qualification Basic degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
• Professional Qualification Certificate in Sensory Integration or currently mentored by supervisor with Sensory Integration experience.
