Whanau Support Worker

You will be in charge of supporting members of your community to provide education and care for vulnerable groups, we can guarantee you that no day will be the same.
About Mana Kidz
Mana Kidz is a free, nurse-led, school-based programme that provides comprehensive healthcare for children in the Counties Manukau Health region. The programme is led by the National Hauora Coalition in partnership with Counties Manukau Health and is supported by local providers such as Tāmaki Health Care.

About the position
The Whānau Support Worker is responsible for undertaking health assessment, health education and health promotion activities in schools in South Auckland. This role provides support and expected to work closely with, and under, the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurses in the day-to-day running of projects in schools and communities. At each of these sites, school- based health nurses and community support workers will see pupils and offer throat and skin checks.
You will need to have:
• Qualification in Community work or similar is preferred
• Knowledge of Medtech is an advantage
• A current full NZ driver's license & own car
• Previous experience in a health environment is desirable
• Good English written and oral communication skills, socially confident, able to relate well to families and community groups.
• Being fluent in another language will be an advantage
• Good organizational skills, including the ability to manage time and prioritise a busy caseload
• An interest, understanding and respect for working with children, young people and their families in the community
• Willing and capable of doing home visits and able to work independently on occasion.
• Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
• *Someone who is committed to the principles of health equity and cultural competency and who is able to demonstrate an understanding of Māori tikanga and kawa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.*
