Work Description

The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for processing samples, maintaining Laboratory Systems and conducting other Laboratory procedures for Research Studies. The incumbent will regularly perform work at a higher level of expertise in carrying out difficult, advanced or complex testing.

Technical Work Responsibilities
• Identify and process eligible samples.
• Link samples identified longitudinally.
• Collect and package processed samples for shipment.
• Retrieve and track sample data in electronic systems.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage laboratory systems and procedures.
• General Administration

Education
• A Laboratory Technologist qualification at NQF level 6 or 7 (National diploma)
• Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in Clinical Pathologist or Microbiology

Advantageous
• GCP certificate

Experience
• At least 3 years Laboratory processing experience
• Clinical or Research experience in TB/HIV care
•... Experience with working with electronic systems like TrakCare/EDRWeb/ REDCap (advantageous)

Requirements
• Fluency in local languages (Setswana, English, SeSotho, Xhosa, Afrikaans)
• Proficient computer literacy skills including Electronic Mail, Record Keeping and routine Database Activity, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Graphics
• SA Citizen or valid Work Permit to work in South Africa
• Drivers Licence
• Minimal/Moderate/Excessive overnight travel (up to 30%) by land or air if required
• Willing to work overtime
