Main purpose of job:

The jobholder will join the Embassys high performing Communications Team, with a focus on supporting regional social media channels across the UK Governments Network in the US and Spanish-language content. The Digital Communications Officer will play an important role in the Embassys digital strategy, including leading on entertainment industry content, liaising with other departments across the UK government and identifying third-party voices on the West coast to amplify UK government messages.

Roles and responsibilities:

Digital Media
• Work with policy teams, government departments and other stakeholders across the US Network to create content for adaptation by all UK digital channels in the USA, including tweets, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram posts, blogs and videos that communicate UK government priorities to US-based audiences. The role will be specifically focused on supporting communications teams across the US consulate network to drive local, high-level digital communications.
• Proactively create, design and execute Spanish-language digital content for social media channels, supporting UK priorities in a way that is relevant to audiences we are seeking to engage and influence.
• Lead on production and sharing of digital content to promote British contributions to the entertainment industry, including Awards Season and film/television sector news.

Liaising and Collaborating
• Identify and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and micro-influencers to share priority UK messages to a broader audience via third-party channels, particularly from West-coast content providers.
• Lead on US Network digital coordination, including strategy implementation, digital campaigns and bi-weekly meetings with Press and Public Affairs Officers (PPAO) to discuss priorities for digital accounts.
• Liaise with government departments, particularly the GREAT Marketing Team and Department for International Trade, to support digital amplification of UK messaging in local channels.
• Assist the wider PPAO team with social media outreach and tracking, event promotion, ministerial visits and forward planning.

Resources managed:

Oversee and administer budget related to national digital campaigns.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Essential on arrival:
• 1-3 years of relevant work or internship experience.
• Experience of developing social media campaigns and developing content for digital media.
• Organisational, communication and computer skills.
• Enthusiastic and creative self-starter able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organisation with a professional and courteous attitude.
• Native level of English and Spanish languages.

Working patterns

This role is 40 hours a week, but does not require set working hours each day.

Able to accommodate a varied working pattern. The British Embassy and its US Network embraces hybrid working, allowing its staff to typically work from home 2 or 3 times a week. We are an organization that also recognises the critical value of teamwork and we embrace and endorse collaboration by ensuring that all staff attend the office flexibly yet regularly.

Some contact with colleagues in different time zones across the US and in the UK will be required.
