The Medical Physics Section provides professional radiation oncology medical physics services to enable the reliable, precise and safe delivery of high-quality radiation therapy services using complex equipment, software and techniques within the Central and Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN/NALHN) regions.
Under the management of a Principal Medical Physicist, the occupant of this position:
Operates as a professional radiation oncology medical physics specialist exercising a very high level of professional responsibilities and initiative within a multidisciplinary team.
Acts in a responsible, professional and efficient manner, and applies recognised medical physics standards and practice, in providing high quality medical physics services.
Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of routine medical physics services and the performance of the more complex tests... that result in effective provision of a patient-centred medical physics service.
Undertakes research and development in the radiation oncology medical physics specialist area.
Provides education, training and development to staff, students and public in the areas of radiation safety, radiation oncology medical physics and related disciplines.
Complies with Policies, Procedures and Instructions as detailed in the Department’s Quality Management System.
Qualifications
An ACPSEM recognised 3-4 year undergraduate degree majoring in physics or a relevant branch of engineering.
An ACPSEM recognised postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics (e.g. a Masters or PhD).
Certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (RO CMPS) conferred by the ACSPEM; or admission to the ACPSEM Register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists and Radiopharmaceutical Scientists in Radiation Oncology (RO QMPS); or a suitable non-ACPSEM certification or qualification.
Note: Applicants with non-ACPSEM certification or qualification (e.g. overseas applicants) must apply to be on the ACPSEM Register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists and Radiopharmaceutical Scientists within 6 months of commencing employment and maintain such registration for the duration of their employment.
