General Job Information Job Summary This position is in the Department of Aging and Community Living (DACL). The mission of DACL is to advocate, plan, implement, and monitor programs in health, education, and social services which promote longevity, independence, dignity, and choice for the city's older adults (ages 60 years or older), people living with disabilities (ages 18-59 years), and caregivers. This position is responsible for providing professional dietetic and nutrition work in assessing and improving the health of seniors. Duties and Responsibilities Assesses, counsels, and educate clients on food and nutrition needs; develops and recommends nutrition standards. Provides analysis of nutritional needs; plans, develops, and recommend changes in the nutrition program to meet the needs of all senior clients. Serves as a resource person regarding nutrition for the elderly. Serves as resource for all areas related to the nutrition program, food service and delivery contractors... Counsels clients on dietary plans based on patients' nutritional needs, adapting plans based on individuals' therapeutic needs; consults with other healthcare team members on patients' nutritional care. Assists projects with methodologies for producing back-up data to support the accuracy of statistical reporting data. Designs and uses appropriate instruments for generating data that best describes operational activities. Prepares administrative reports, letters, etc. Develops spreadsheets and/or tracking reports. Must be able to utilize various software programs and Microsoft Office. Qualifications and Education Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (external link) (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (external link) (formerly American Dietetic Association (external link) (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). In addition: Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade in the normal line of progression. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position and include work directly related to providing professional dietetic and/or nutrition work. Licenses and Certifications Must be a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in Washington, DC, at the time of employment. A valid driver's license is required. Work Conditions/Environment Work is usually performed in an office setting; however, on-site visits are also required and may include private homes and apartments, offices, institutions, potential housing, meetings with providers, and professional training sites. The work also requires incumbent to drive to sites/visits and walking in the community.
