Job Title: Coder | Department: Health Information Management
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, the Coder assigns diagnostic, procedural, & E&M codes to patient medical records, coding charts under ICDCM, PCS, and HCPCS systems related to patient visits to provide statistical data, payment, and DRG assignments. The role involves abstracting required data into the hospital's system, ensuring accurate charge capture to support billing and reimbursement, working independently and as part of a team to maintain revenue cycle performance.
Minimum Education:
Associate’s degree in medical information technology or equivalent, including courses in anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, ICDCM coding, and prospective payment.
College-level course in Anatomy & Physiology required.
Completion of basic coding coursework (e.g., AHIMA, AAPC, college).
Minimum Work Experience:
6 months of coding experience preferred.
Experience with electronic health records preferred.
Eligible for CCS-P or CCS designation preferred.
Recent experience in health information, ER, or hospital finance preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities:
Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
Moderate computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
Additional Requirements (Level II):
3+ years of coding experience.
Certification as AAPC, CCS, or CCS-P required.
Strong Microsoft Windows skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and familiarity with EHR systems.
Attention to detail and analytical skills.
Status: 40 hours/week | Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Schedule: Hybrid work schedule post-training.
Pay Rate: $24.38 – $27.38/hour, commensurate with experience and education.
