Please note that all charter schools in New Mexico are public schools. Public charter schools can be state-chartered or district-chartered. All state-chartered schools in New Mexico are authorized by the Public Education Commission (PEC) and serve as their own Local Educational Agency (LEA). Several public school districts also serve as charter school authorize rs and those locally-chartered public schools operate under the jurisdiction of the local school district.
Why does the job exist?
This position administers the performance monitoring, evaluation, support, and technical assistance to state-authorized charter schools in the area of financial health and performance, and provides support and assistance to the charter schools authorizing team in the area of financial data collection and analysis. How does it get done?
Review and evaluate financial plans in new and renewal applications, implementation year submissions, and Education Plans tied to funding
Monitor charter schools' fiscal oversight including fiscal policies, financial reports and audit reports
Monitor and evaluate charter school governing boards' fiscal oversight
Review management's response to audit findings Monitor financial corrective action plans (CAPs) and financial conditions of renewal. Conduct finance meetings at annual monitoring and renewal visits (remote or in person) with school-specific questions developed from previous reports and audit data. Collect, analyze, and manage data related to charter school organizational and financial performance to contribute to state-charter school annual performance reports
Oversee school closure process
Provide technical assistance to charter schools
Provide data analysis and reports
Provide support, as needed, across the Division and at the request of the CSD Director and Deputy Director. Who are the customers?
Governor, Secretary of Education, Public Education Commission, Charter Schools. Ideal Candidate Master's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
