Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO), a Statutory Board of Tynwald, is the Island's leading parcel delivery business and has obligations as set out in the Post Office Act 1993 to deliver letters, both locally and to/from the UK and overseas.
An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join our senior management team as Head of Operations, leading the business' largest division. The role is challenging and diverse and will play a key role in contributing to the continued success and growth of the business and delivery of its long-term strategy.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will:
Lead the Mails operation in the development and achievement of its five-year rolling strategy and be accountable for its operating plan from design to delivery
Effectively lead a management team and circa 200 frontline employees across four sites
Maintain the highest standards of service for the collection, delivery and processing of parcels, letters and ancillary postal services for our customers - circa 14.5 million items per year
Oversee and develop logistics arrangements to/from the Island, including the response to changes in postal volumes and supply chain disruptions
Be responsible for the division's annual financial forecasting, KPI's and analysis, ensuring year on year efficiencies
Oversee the cost-effective maintenance of a fleet of over 100 vehicles and annual replacement programme, including our transition to emission free vehicles and associated infrastructure
Work closely with our commercial team to foster a customer focussed business ethos, and lead operational change to drive profitable growth
Create and develop positive relationships with staff and unions, customers, delivery partners and suppliers and other stakeholders
The Candidate must be able to demonstrate:
Proven experience at a senior level in the delivery of operational excellence (desirable in postal / logistics) and/or a degree in logistics, business, operations management or related field
Strategic planning, identification and implementation of best practices to improve efficiency, reduce costs and drive productivity
Proficiency in financial planning, forecasting and analysis
Innovation and the implementation of new technologies / automation to achieve efficiency and customer improvements
Self-motivation, resilience and versatility, with excellent leadership, motivational, communication and influencing skills
Experience of successful leadership of managing and motivating a large operational team across multiple sites, particularly in change delivery
The ability to design new processes through the analysis of data to improve quality, forecasting and cost control, optimise staffing and production capacity to drive efficiencies and increased profitability

The remuneration package for the role includes a competitive salary dependent upon experience and generous terms and conditions including an annual performance bonus, Employer Contribution Group pension scheme, continued professional training and development and free onsite car parking. Whilst this is an operational role and an onsite presence is required, elements of the role can be undertaken offsite and therefore this role is included within the working from home and flexible working policy.
