Role Description – Healthcare Accountant (Remote, Contract, ~10–15 hrs/week)
ZHW is seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Healthcare Accountant to oversee and manage the financial functions of our clinic. This contract-based, remote position is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in an organized, mission-aligned environment. You’ll play a key role in our sustainability and growth, ensuring that financial operations — from insurance billing to payroll — are accurate, compliant, and efficient.
Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including AP/AR, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Handle insurance billing submissions, rejections, and follow-ups (excluding OHIP)
Maintain and monitor the general ledger
Oversee payroll processing for employees and contractors
Track and report revenue streams, clinician productivity, and cost centers
Collaborate on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and financial standards
Provide insights and reports to the clinical director (monthly or quarterly)
✅ Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of accounting experience, ideally in a healthcare or clinic setting
Experience with insurance billing (private insurance, EAPs, WSIB, etc.)
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks and GNU accounting systems (or willingness to learn)
Proven success in accounts receivable, revenue tracking, and financial forecasting
Experience with payroll systems and CRA remittances for employees and contractors
Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
Strong analytical mindset with the ability to generate actionable insights
Comfortable working independently and remotely with minimal supervision

Ability to handle sensitive financial and client data with the highest level of discretion
Experience working in founder-led or transition-stage businesses is an asset
Familiarity with Ontario’s healthcare regulatory environment is a plus (but not required)
