Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Position Summary:

The Department of English is searching for a temporary lecturer in linguistics for the academic year, with the possibility of appointment in subsequent years. The candidate must be able to teach courses in second language acquisition, English grammar, and general linguistics (e.g., syntax, morphology, sociolinguistics). We are especially interested in candidates committed to supporting the success of first-generation and underrepresented students.

California State University, Chico seeks faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. We are primarily looking for instructors to teach in person.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is a Ph.D. in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field with a concentration in second language acquisition. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be complete prior to the beginning of the academic year, August 2025.

Preferred Qualifications:

Eligible candidates could have expertise in any area in linguistics but should be qualified to teach general undergraduate-level courses across a variety of different areas in the field, as well as graduate-level courses in second language acquisition theory and second/foreign language teaching methodology. Preferred qualifications include training and experience in language teaching, experience in curriculum development, and a background in teacher education.

Successful candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity as evidenced in their record of teaching, scholarship, and/or service.

Responsibilities:

The teaching load is a minimum of four courses (0.8 time base) per semester. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate-level courses in ENGL within the candidate's disciplinary expertise and graduate-level courses in EDSL in second/foreign language teaching. Specific teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.
