Online Data Science Instructor – Job Description

Job Summary:

The Online Data Science Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging, and interactive online courses in data science. This role involves curriculum development, live and recorded instruction, student mentorship, and assessment of learning outcomes. The instructor will work with individuals, corporate clients, or academic institutions to teach essential data science concepts, tools, and techniques.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Course Development & Instruction:

Design and deliver online courses covering topics such as Python, R, SQL, machine learning, data visualization, and big data analytics.

Create lesson plans, instructional materials, coding exercises, and real-world projects.

Conduct live virtual classes, webinars, and interactive Q&A sessions.

Record and edit instructional videos for asynchronous learners.

2. Student Engagement & Support:

Provide mentorship and guidance to students on coursework, projects, and career development.

Offer timely feedback on assignments and assessments.

Foster an inclusive and engaging online learning environment.

Conduct office hours or one-on-one sessions to address student queries.

3. Assessment & Performance Tracking:

Develop quizzes, coding challenges, and capstone projects to evaluate student progress.

Track student engagement and performance using LMS (Learning Management System) analytics.

Provide progress reports and suggest learning improvements.

4. Collaboration & Industry Alignment:

Work with curriculum designers, instructional designers, and industry experts to ensure course content is up-to-date.

Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and advancements in data science.

Integrate real-world case studies and practical applications into coursework.

5. Technical & Administrative Responsibilities:

Utilize and manage online learning platforms (e.g., Coursera, Udemy, DataCamp, edX, Moodle, or proprietary LMS).

Ensure smooth delivery of online classes and resolve technical issues.

Participate in faculty meetings, curriculum updates, and professional development activities.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

2+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or a related field.

Experience teaching, mentoring, or conducting technical training in an online or in-person setting.

Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, and SQL.

Strong knowledge of data science libraries and tools (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Tableau).

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Preferred:

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark).

Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and online teaching tools (Zoom, Google Classroom, Jupyter Notebooks).

Industry certifications in data science or AI/ML (e.g., Google Data Engineer, AWS Certified Machine Learning).

Experience in curriculum design and instructional content creation.

Work Environment:

Fully remote or hybrid teaching setup.

Flexible hours depending on course schedules.
