AmeriCorps Members support youth by providing homework help, high-yield learning activities, and coaching to reinforce and enhance the skills and knowledge youth learn at school. This AmeriCorps Member assists with planning, implementing, and evaluating activities within the Power-Hour/Project Learn program. Members serve a fixed schedule completing a service commitment that spans the length of the afterschool program. Commitment options vary by Club location and members can serve 675 hours or 300 hours. Monday – Friday – 2:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Living Allowance (stipend amount subject to change, and dependent upon service contract):up to $6,075 per term, divided amongst equal pay periods throughout the term. Educational Award: worth over $1,300. Must be at least 18 years old; U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; MUST Attend mandatory AmeriCorps activities including PSO, trainings, & Service project(s); Living Allowance stipend paid according to Boys & Girls Clubs pay schedule, with standard deductions; Experience in working with children preferred, but not required. Ability to motivate and encourage youth. Ability to help students with ELA, Reading, and Math homework. Ability to deal with the general public. Ability to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environment. Ability to communicate effectively. Character traits of patience and self-control. Emotional and mental stability required when working with children Ability to function under stress and pressure. Ability to make a commitment and to stand firm in that commitment. Valid State Driver’s License & own transportation strongly preferred. Desire to work in a creative, fast paced, team environment. Problem solving and conflict resolution skills. All candidates must pass post-offer/pre-service requirements, including: Criminal Background Check and Drug Screen.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members will complete a service term as an Enrichment Coach at one of our Boys & Girls Clubs in the Acadiana Area: Abbeville, New Iberia, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Natchitoches, or Opelousas. AmeriCorps members help support positive development of youth by planning, implementing, and evaluating activities provided within a specific program area, such as Education, Character & Leadership, Sports & Recreation, The Arts and Health & Wellness.
