Position Description

Position Title: School Psychologist

Department/Section: Exceptional Student Services

Supervisor: Lead School Psychologist/Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Support

School Psychologist, 1.0 FTE. Position begins August 01, 2024. Licensed Professional Salary Schedule. Current ADE School Psychologist certification or State of Arizona Psychologist licensure required.

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION: To facilitate learning and to promote the cognitive, social and personal development of all students. To provide psychological services to schools, including testing, counseling and consulting to assist in meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of students in regular and special education programs.

Typical Tasks

• Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations of referred children for special education services through the use of appropriate diagnostic practices.
• Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and the individualized education program (IEP) committee, and contribute by providing clear and concise evaluation findings and educational intervention strategies.
• Provide the Multi-Evaluation Team (MET), including parents, with professional and easy-to-understand written MET reports.
• Support FUSD’s RtI process by attending or providing consultation services as needed.
• Provide consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students.
• Advocate for continuing improvement through sharing professional knowledge with the school psychologist staff.
• Facilitate manifestation determination meetings.
• Conduct risk assessments on those students who demonstrate self-harm and/or aggressive or violent behavior towards others.
• Review records and/or test transfer students for possible special education eligibility.
• Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession.
• Maintain a working knowledge of new developments in the field of school psychology by reading professional journals and attending professional development opportunities.
• Adhere to all district, state, and federal timelines and guidance.
• Assist in and help facilitate behavioral Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, including Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBAs) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Plan and/or provide in services for all district staff as needed, including “Child Find,” discipline issues with special education students, and confidentiality concerns regarding special needs students.
• Serve on the district’s Crisis Response Team (Flight Team) as needed.
• Supervise and mentor assigned interns and/or practicum students.
• Collaborate with school teams in providing 504 services to students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a Master’s degree and a valid Arizona Department of Education School Psychologist certificate. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of school psychology theory, child development, child and adolescent psychopathology, and psychometric principals as related to psychoeducational testing. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must possess excellent time management skills. Must possess knowledge and have an understanding of education leadership. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, school team members, community agencies, and others.
