• Luapula Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited (LpWSC), is a Commercial Utility mandated to provide water supply and sanitation services to the urban and the rural areas of Luapula Province. The Company operates under the legal framework as outlined in the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No. 28 of 1997.
• The Commercial Utility was incorporated under the Companies Act Cap 338 of the laws of Zambia and operates in five out of the twelve districts in the province, namely Mansa, Nchelenge, Mwense, Kawambwa and Samfya. The Commercial Utility, being an equal opportunity employer, seeks to recruit high profiled, self-motivated, innovative, honest, committed, adequately and appropriately experienced person to fill the vacant position of SAFETY OFFICER to be based in Mansa.
Summary of Main Accountabilities
• Manages health, safety, and environmental concerns within the organization.
• Ensures company compliance to statutory regulations in terms of safety health and environment.
• Implements and monitor the company’s safety health and environmental management systems.
• Ensures that personal protective equipment is provided and utilized correctly in accordance with the prevailing workplace hazards.
• Investigates causes of accidents and other unsafe conditions on the job site and creates analytical reports of safety data and orders repairs for unsafe and/or damaged equipment.
• Inspects production equipment and processes to make sure they are safe.
• Focuses on accident prevention by presenting safety principles to employees in meetings or lecture-type training sessions and participating in continuing education to update knowledge of health and safety protocols and techniques.
• Shares safety information, suggestions, and observations with Management team/Supervisors to create consistency in safety standards throughout the production team and the entire company.
• Reviews and reports on the employees’ compliance with health and safety rules in order to recommend the best way to prevent future accidents.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• Grade 12 Certificate with Five (5) O Levels
• Diploma in Occupational Safety/ Environmental Studies or higher
• 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a comparable organisation
• Considerable specialised diplomacy is a prime requirement;
• Analysis of relatively complex problems
• Make decisions within broad parameters.
