Position Title: Member of the Crown Zellerbach (CZ) Trail Advisory Committee
Department or Program Overview: The CZ Trail was established in 2013, the CZ Trail Advisory committee was formed in 2018 to focus on the development of the 23-mile route between the cities of Scappoose and Vernonia. The Committee advises the Board and county staff and works on specific projects regarding the trail. Projects include reviewing a Concept Plan developed in the 2000s, acquisition or right-of-way of part of the trail in Vernonia connecting to the Banks-Vernonia Trail, developing trailheads with signage, and the use of a former logging camp as an equestrian camp. The CZ Trail offers recreational opportunities for hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders.
The Committee shall consist of seven regular members and up to two alternate members appointed by the Columbia County Board of Commissioners (the Board). Appointments are staggered to ensure continuity. Terms are for 4 years.
Meeting Schedule and Location: Quarterly at the Columbia County Courthouse or other designated location.
General Statement of Duties:
• Members shall adhere to membership requirements.
• Members shall attend meetings and any meetings of the subcommittees to which they are appointed.
• Members shall adhere to all state laws, rules, and regulations regarding conflict of interest and rules of ethics for public officials.
• The committee shall adopt and adhere to policies and procedures which shall not be inconsistent with the Ordinance or applicable laws, rules or regulations.
• The committee shall act in an advisory capacity to the Board with respect to the development of the CZ Trail.
Qualifications:
• May be a member of the Columbia County Forest, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and/or one or more of the following:
• Resident living in the vicinity of the CZ Trail.
• Representative of federal, state or local agency or jurisdiction involved in park, trail, recreation facilities, roads or forest management.
• Representative of cycling, hiking or equestrian group.
• Representative of local watershed council.
• Representative from local logging company.
Position Reports To: The Director of General Services is appointed to manage and staff the committee and act as liaison between the committee and the Board.
Expectations: Be reliable, act responsibly and with integrity, be accountable for your actions, carry out duties according to the position description, be committed to Columbia County and your tour of service, undertake training as required, ask for support when needed, be courteous to participants, staff, other volunteers and value and support other team members.
Additional Training: Volunteer Orientation training will be provided.
