This application is a general internship application. Candidates will be connected with departments based on skills, interest, and knowledge in a related field. Distinguishing Characteristics

This classification is used for temporary appointments only, to provide job training for regularly enrolled students, persons who have recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program and are working to complete related licensure or certification requirements, persons who are participating in a supervised training program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California, or persons in approved vocational rehabilitation plans. Duties will vary widely based on the training assignment and department program needs.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of: the fundamentals of department program area.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to: follow instructions, accept supervision; comprehend and digest training; maintain confidentiality of information; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative relationships with other county staff and the public.

Education And Experience

Appointments shall be made as a Vocational Rehabilitation Trainee or Intern:

Vocational Rehabilitation Trainee: Person assigned to temporary employment with the County through an approved vocational rehabilitation plan. This plan shall have as its primary purpose the rehabilitation of an employee who has been disabled due to a work-related injury or limited in employment opportunities due to a handicap. The plan shall be submitted for approval to the State Division of Industrial Accidents, Rehabilitation Bureau, or, in the case of a program for the handicapped, to the funding agency.

Intern: Person appointed to temporary employment with the County in a training position which compliments their ongoing education as a regularly enrolled student in an accredited school, who have recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program and who are working to complete related licensure or certification requirements, or as a participant in a supervised training program to meet licensure requirements of the State of California. "Regularly enrolled" shall mean that the student is both currently enrolled and intends to continue that enrollment in the next regularly scheduled term. The training placement shall have the prior approval of the student's departmental advisor and both the student's continued enrollment and the training placement are subject to review by the Human Resources Director or designee.

Licenses and Certificates

Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver's license will be required at the time of appointment.
