The Assistant Controller plays a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of Powers of Mississippi and Powers of Louisiana. This position will manage the financial accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and standards. This role requires a strong background in accounting, finance, and excellent analytical skills.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve as the lead of the Accounting Department and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial and accounting records.
• Develop a strong working knowledge of the Company's software systems and assist accounting staff with the utilization and flow of data through these systems.
• Prepare and present financial reports for management as requested.
• Provide detailed review of Company payroll and accounts payable.
• Review and finalize multiple bank reconciliations.
• Take ownership of the month-end close process, including but not limited to salary accruals, health/commercial insurance adjustments, journal entries required for monthly financials, over/under-reporting, unearned service contract revenue, verify cash account balances to the balance sheet, review of financial statements, closing of intercompany AR/AP, fluctuation explanations, reconciling debt repayment schedules, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• File annual franchise reports in multiple states.
• File annual personal property tax assessments.
• Renew annual contractor's license in multiple states.
• Compile financial data and act as liaison to external auditors for financial statement compilations, and tax returns.
• Prepare and file quarterly and annual tax/payroll filings.
• Monthly filing of Sales and Use Tax for multiple states.
• Monitor daily bank deposits and activity.
• Maintain Certificate of Insurance Book and procure job and customer-specific certificates of insurance.
• Liaise with banks and other financial institutions requiring accounting information when authorized.
• Issue and cancel company credit cards as needed, oversee credit limits, and resolve disputes.
• Maintain leadership role with accounting team members, offering advice and solutions to issues that arise.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in financial management.
• Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• 5-year minimum experience in a corporate accounting department with exposure to a broad range of accounting functions.
• Understanding of GAAP.
• Able to communicate effectively with employees of all levels.
• Analytical and detail-oriented
• Well-organized with the ability to prioritize
• Advanced skill level with Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Sage
• Professional certification is a plus
