Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) to support students with diverse learning needs. You will work closely with students, parents, and other educators to ensure students receive the academic, social, and emotional support they need to thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
• Modify and adapt instructional materials to meet the needs of students with varying disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and administration to support inclusion in the classroom.
• Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, social skills, and life skills based on student needs.
• Monitor and assess student progress regularly, making adjustments to teaching methods as necessary.
• Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with parents, specialists, and other team members.
• Create a positive, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and performance.
• Utilize assistive technology and adaptive equipment to support student learning, as needed.
• Implement behavioral management strategies and interventions to support positive student behavior.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate with a Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) endorsement or a Teacher of the Handicapped (TOH) certificate.
• New Jersey Standard Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) in Special Education.
• Praxis II Exam in Special Education (for TOSD certification) if applicable.
• Experience:
• Previous experience working with students with special needs in a school setting is highly desirable.
• Skills and Competencies:
• Strong understanding of special education laws, including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and Section 504.
• Proficient in the development and implementation of IEPs.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and use various teaching strategies to meet diverse learner needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Patience, creativity, and a commitment to student success.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with behavioral interventions and classroom management techniques.
• Knowledge of assistive technologies and accommodations for students with disabilities.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus, but not required.
