Overview

The Hockey Coordinator II is a Part-Time Position. We offer competitive compensation, PTO and an employee discount for part-time employees.

Job Purpose

Hockey Coordinator 2 is responsible for the implementation, administration, and day-to-day operations of the hockey programs at the Park District of Oak Park. This position oversees the Travel Hockey program and assists with all administration work for the in-house Learn to Play youth hockey program and Adult Hockey League. This position will train, supervise, direct, and evaluate part-time hockey coaches and officials.

Essential Functions
• Assist in the planning and direct implementation of long-term goals for the hockey program including new classes, participant retention, and overall program improvement and progression.
• Monitor & respond to parent communications and inquiries.
• Lead, coach, & manage Jr. Coaching program with high school hockey players.
• Oversee the operations of the Ice Bears Travel House Hockey program, including serving as Rules and Ethics Chair.
• Create lesson plans and oversee hockey aspects of Special Facilities Summer Camps.
• Ensure program, rink, and Park District objectives, policies, and expectations are adhered to by hockey staff and participants. If needed, take corrective action.
• Maintain a system for tracking participant progress and registration.
• Assist with payroll by reviewing employees’ entries into the time clock system.
• Maintain and order hockey equipment and supplies.
• Act as liaison between the Park District of Oak Park and the Blackhawks, Goodman Elite, NWHL, NIHL, and contractors.
• Act as a liaison between the Ice Bears and local high school hockey teams and community groups.
• Manage volunteer coach and manager credentials.
• Manage, track, & purchase One Goal Gear and other Hockey Academy and Ice Bears supplies as needed.
• Manage USA Hockey team registrations & IHOA referee assignments.
• Create performance reviews of hockey staff on a mid-year and annual basis.
• Assist in administrative planning and maintenance of the Adult Hockey League.
• Works as a customer service advocate by investigating and acting upon participant comments, concerns, and issues.
• Schedule hockey lessons and generate ice layouts to fully utilize the ice time allotted.
• Schedule coaches and assistants to cover all classes and meet instructor ratios. Fill in as a coach when needed.
• Organize and lead ongoing staff training and meetings that successfully convey program objections, policies, and expectations.
• Set and maintain participant testing and passing standards.
• Promote and recruit for the hockey program at Park District events.
• In the absence of Hockey Coordinator 1, assist in the operations of the Adult Hockey Program.
• In the absence of Hockey Coordinator 1, oversee all daily functions of Hockey Academy including set-up, take down, and class transitions.

Additional Functions
• Convey a positive and professional image at all times by interacting with patrons, participants, and staff.
• Promote a family-friendly environment by encouraging excellent customer service, teamwork, and positive attitudes.
• Take a proactive approach to problem-solving and use sound judgment to resolve situations in a safe, effective, and timely manner.
• Assist with the planning, staffing, and supervision of rink special events including the annual Learn to Skate Ice Show.
• Assist in the preparation of reports as necessary including participation reports and end-of-season rink reports.
• Attend workshops and conferences in order to stay up to date on recent trends in order to purpose, plan, and coordinate the development of new and innovative classes.
• Enforce and abide by all safety practices set forth by the rink. This includes but is not limited to, enforcing rules, basic first aid, completion of accident/incident reports, as well as efforts to prevent and abate future injuries.
• Act as a representative of the Park District by working to carry out the goals and mission set forth by the agency.

Knowledge, Skill, And Work Experience Required
• Extensive hockey background and ability to instruct all levels of hockey players.
• Experience designing and overseeing program operations.
• Excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Ability to attract people (participants and instructors) to the program
• Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment and keep certification current. The district provides this training.

Recommended
• Previous experience supervising staff.
• Knowledge of Amilia, Microsoft Office and general computer literacy.
• Experience with USA Hockey and NWHL programs.

Work Environment, Physical Demands And Considerations
• Frequently sitting, walking, standing, skating, and typing
• Occasionally climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling
• Exposure to cold weather and quick changes in temperature from rink to lobby
• Normal office conditions for the majority of work
• May include prolonged hours of computer use and seated at a desk

Schedule: 25-28 hours/week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon/evenings, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
