Employee will have a 180-day Probationary Period. Pay Rate will adjust at the end of the Probationary Period. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Yearly raises are subject to the terms of the agreement.

JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
Under general supervision, is responsible for the performance of a variety of highway maintenance and construction projects; uses and/or operates various heavy and light construction equipment; performs snow and ice removal and related support operations; assists with vehicle, equipment and building maintenance; performs all other related duties as required.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
General: The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed in this classification; All duties may involve heavy manual labor with or without aid from mechanical equipment.
Operates dump trucks with and without snow plows; operates front end loader, excavator, skid steer, paver, roller, distributor, grader, tractor and mower, bucket truck, brush chipper, chain saw and other heavy and light equipment of a wide variety; hauls stone, dirt, asphalt, salt and other road materials to and from Highway Garage or other facilities or projects;
Piles salt, salts roads driving dump truck with snowplow, operates and maintains dump truck and related snow and ice removal equipment;
Performs vehicle and equipment inspections; writes work orders for needed vehicle and equipment repairs; performs general maintenance on equipment; assists mechanics when needed or scheduled; performs grounds, stockyard and building maintenance;
Performs pavement repair and patching operations, berming and shoulder repair; crack sealing of pavement surfaces, chip sealing of roads; performs guardrail inspection, installation and repair; inspects road and roadway condition for deterioration, storm and accident related damages;
Performs tree and limb removal, roadside mowing, vegetation control and trash pickup;
Performs culvert replacement, extension and repairs; installs and maintains catch basins; maintains roadside and drainage ditches by ditch cleaning, channel dredging and silt removal; performs bridge repairs, demolition, and welding
Flags and directs traffic; performs weather related and emergency roadwork operations; position requires the ability to prepare written reports of work performed, materials used, quantity tabulations;
May serve as Crew Leader in the absence of Foreman or other supervisor; may be responsible for subsequent scheduling of work in such temporary capacity;
The employee may be required to attend special training sessions as needed;
Performs all other related duties as required.
NECESSARY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Skilled in the operation of dump trucks, with and without snow plows, in all weather conditions; Knowledge of general highway maintenance procedures; knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline-powered and diesel-powered motor vehicles; knowledge of the particular problems involved in the operation of light equipment as distinguished from passenger car operation; knowledge of State and local motor vehicle laws; ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions from Supervisors and other personnel; ability to perform heavy manual labor/duties for long periods of time; ability to work in adverse weather conditions; ability to bend, stoop and crawl; Ability to move and lift various objects up to 100 lbs. on an inconsistent basis; ability to operate and drive vehicles and equipment for extended periods of time; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors and the general public; The ability to work in/under the conditions described below.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Employee is on call 24/7 including weekend and overtime availability [Normal shift is from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.]; may be required to work overtime and various shifts, weekends and/or Holidays; subject to call-in at all times and in emergency situations; may be required to work a night shift, 5:30 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. or later, usually during the months of November through March each year; may be exposed to, or come into contact with: asphalt, chemicals and solvents, concrete, construction equipment, dirt, dust, exhaust fumes, fuels, grease, herbicides, ivy, lubricants, paints, oils, vegetation, weeds, and other construction materials, works in adverse and inclement weather conditions and extremes in temperatures; works in moving traffic; may be required to move and lift heavy items up to 100 pounds on an inconsistent basis; may require significant driving time; may require operating dump truck over extended periods during snow removal season; may require constant walking or standing on hard surfaces for duration of the work shift; may involve stooping, bending, crawling and working in strained positions.

Possession of a valid State of Ohio Class B (min.) Commercial Driver’s License without Air Brake Restriction and vehicularly insurable according to the requirements of Medina County.
High School diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in the operation of any one or more types of heavy equipment listed in this specification. Additional experience may be substituted for one year of desired education on a year-for-year basis.'
