Job Overview:

This position involves working as an Industrial Hygienist, focusing on conducting evaluations, preparing technical reports, and ensuring compliance with occupational and environmental health standards. The role supports Department of Defense (DoD) facilities both domestically and internationally.

Key Duties:
• Health Hazard Evaluation and Control:
• Conduct complex and sensitive industrial hygiene evaluations.
• Anticipate, recognize, assess, and recommend control methods for occupational and environmental health hazards.
• Ensure evaluations protect worker health while meeting mission requirements.
• Technical Oversight and Reporting:
• Prepare detailed technical reports with corrective action recommendations.
• Review technical documents for accuracy and propose necessary revisions.
• Analyze survey findings and identify potential health hazards.
• Operational Support:
• Coordinate on-site support, including arranging travel, equipment, schedules, and funding.
• Support evaluations at various DoD installations throughout the U.S. and overseas.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with federal safety and occupational health standards.
• Provide recommendations to address design deficiencies impacting health hazard controls.

Conditions of Employment:
• Eligibility and Clearances:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Requires a Secret security clearance (includes background investigation and credit check).
• Subject to a one-year probationary period if not previously completed.
• Physical and Travel Requirements:
• Moderate to heavy physical exertion, including carrying equipment, climbing stairs, standing for long periods, and extensive walking.
• Travel for 35% of the time, including Temporary Duty (TDY) assignments.
• Use of employer-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Other Conditions:
• Completion of a pre-employment physical exam and annual exams.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License required.
• Position may involve flexible or extended work hours.

Qualifications:
Basic Education Requirements:
• Degree Options:
• Industrial Hygiene or related fields (e.g., occupational health sciences, environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences).
• Related degrees (e.g., engineering, physical science, life science) with 12 semester hours in chemistry (including organic chemistry) and 18 hours in related fields such as biology, toxicology, or physics.
• Certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is also acceptable.
• Accreditation:
• Education must be from an institution accredited by a body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Foreign Education:
• If using foreign education, credentials must be evaluated and deemed equivalent to U.S. standards.

Specialized Experience (GS-12):
• Required Experience: One year of experience equivalent to GS-11 in the federal service, demonstrating:
• Conducting evaluations of potentially hazardous occupational or environmental conditions.
• Reviewing and revising technical documents for accuracy.
• Providing recommendations to mitigate health hazards and design deficiencies.
• Education Substitution: Not applicable—experience is required to qualify for this role.

Additional Information:
• Probationary Period: One year, during which the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
• Compensation: Salary includes locality pay. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized.
• Work Environment: Exposure to occupational and environmental hazards, requiring adherence to strict safety protocols.
