About the position
The Grocery Person in Charge at Albertsons Companies plays a vital role in the operation of the Grocery Department, which includes Frozen, Dairy, and Liquor/Beer sections. This position reports directly to the Store Director and is responsible for assisting the Grocery Manager in directing daily operations, supervising and training personnel, and ensuring that customer service goals are met. The Grocery Person in Charge will engage in various tasks such as ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising products. In the absence of the Store Director and Grocery Manager, this role may also involve directing and controlling the entire store's operations. The ideal candidate will champion the company's customer service programs, handle customer relations positively, and promote Albertsons/Safeway's philosophy of personalized service. Responsibilities include preparing a “to do list” for night stockers, controlling shrink, preventing the sale of out-of-code products, and ensuring compliance with company sanitation, safety, and security policies. The Grocery Person in Charge will also be responsible for the overall operation of the store, including supervising all employees and addressing customer complaints when necessary. This position requires a strong retail background with prior management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage and develop people. The candidate must be friendly, courteous, and able to maintain composure in various situations, including dealing with customers, vendors, and co-workers. The role demands a thorough understanding of company practices, policies, and procedures, as well as knowledge of state and federal regulations. The Grocery Person in Charge must also be able to operate and train others in the use of cash registers and scanning equipment, and be prepared to implement emergency procedures when necessary.
