The Assistant Director of Childcare is responsible for being a positive role model at The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County. This Assistant Director’s primary responsibility is to oversee the day-to-day operations of our licensed childcare and camp programs. This individual will report directly to the Kids Clubhouse Childcare Director to ensure a positive and productive environment for all youth.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in youth development required
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a youth development related field required
• Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required
• All staff are expected to assist with our major fundraising events and efforts
• Staff must be flexible as our schedules change to serve our members – evening and weekends may be necessary during the school year

Job Requirements:
• Demonstrated knowledge of principles related to development of youth between 5 and 14 years of age
• Must be proficient with computer technology – e.g. Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, and the ability to keep accurate data for reporting purposes and to work independently/self-starter
• CPR/First Aid certified
• Eligibility to Work in U.S.: Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required
• Strong oral and written communication skills written
• Positive role model who can inspire and guide our members.
• Ability to show up on time and ready to represent our team professionally each day
• We provide additional training after hire to ensure you’re fully supported in your new role
• According to state law, the Boys & Girls Club must conduct a criminal records check by the Bureau of Criminal Identification of the Department of Attorney General of the State of Rhode Island
• Must attain Chauffeurs license from the state of RI within 4 months of hire

Job Responsibilities:
• Foster a warm, welcoming, and safe environment where members and staff feel valued and supported
• Support Director and provide leadership for overall Childcare programs, including licensing and accreditation support, behavior management, staff supervision and scheduling, transportation coordination and program planning;
• Guide and support our staff members working directly in the childcare department, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement to deliver a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience for all participants
• Supervise and mentor Youth Development Staff, empowering them to make a positive impact
• Coordinate and oversee educational programs like Learn 365 and Reading Reaps Rewards
• Contribute to creating memorable, fun, and educational experiences for all participants
• Continuously enhance program plans to keep activities fresh and engaging for our members.
• Organize and implement weekly programs that reflect our commitment to member growth and enjoyment
• Build strong, positive, and professional relationships among staff and members to create a supportive and collaborative atmosphere
• Work alongside a variety of partners on initiatives that benefit the Boys & Girls Club and the wider community
• Collaborate with schools to create personalized academic plans for members, helping members reach their full potential
• Take on additional tasks that contribute to our team’s success as needed

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

Sitting, standing, active up and down within area. Running, bending, swimming, throwing and other childcare related movements.

Terms of Employment:

Full-time hours with benefits. Annual salary of $40,000- $48,000 based on experience.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County offers a variety of programs for children, teens, adults and families. Programs include after school licensed child care, homework help, a teen center, summer camp, swimming lessons and aquatics, a fitness center, dance and drama, computers and technology, music and music production, and the fine arts.
