Overall Expectations:
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our afterschool programming team. The Willow Park afterschool programming staff will be responsible for supervising and engaging school-aged children in a safe and supportive environment after regular school hours. This role requires a commitment to ensuring the well-being and positive development of youth aged 10-12 through structured activities and effective communication with members and colleagues.

• Act as a positive role model and leader for manners, respect, language and punctuality both inside and outside of the Club.
• Act in a calm and respectful manner when dealing with children, youth and parents.
• Represent the agency in a professional manner and maintain confidentiality pertaining to all Club matters and operations.
• Fulfill your duties to the best of your knowledge and ability.
• Maintain teamwork and effective communication skills.
Reporting:
The Program Staff report directly to the Willow Park Coordinator and the Program Lead. If issues cannot be solved at this level, then you may report concerns directly to the Executive Director. All administrative and operational decisions related to this position (including hiring, termination, and changes to duties) will be made through a consultation process between the Program Lead and Executive Director.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in child development, education, or related fields preferred.
• Experience working with children in a childcare, educational, or recreational setting.
• Ability to organize and lead activities, adapting to the needs and interests of children.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
• If over 18, ability to provide a clear RCMP Criminal Record Check as well as a Child Intervention Check through the Government of Alberta.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise children during afterschool hours, always ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Be informed of all program information and ensure objectives are met.
• Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to mitigate them.
• Ensure all necessary equipment, supplies and resources are ready prior to program start.
• Provide input to the Program Lead as needed. Your feedback is very important.
• Participate in program debrief.
• Lead the programs with a positive attitude and lots of energy. Keep the children interested and active. Role model all activities.
• Always have impromptu games and activities ready to be played at a moment’s notice (if a program finishes early, or interest is waning). There are lots of resources available on request.
• Implement and facilitate age-appropriate activities, including games, arts and crafts, sports, and educational exercises.
• Aid with homework and academic enrichment activities.
• Foster positive relationships and promote good behavior among children and youth.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues
• Maintain a clean and organized environment, including setup and cleanup of activity areas.
• Follow program policies and procedures, including safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment.
• Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
• Work on “door” from time to time communicating with parents and caregivers, calling kids from programs when caregivers arrive, Checking Id’s and ensuring all children are going home with safe pick ups from our contact report. Ensuring no children leave the club unattended.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift heavier items (programming equipment/supplies), bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods.
• Stamina and energy to actively engage with children in various activities.
• Wage: $17.30
Schedule and Attendance:
• Primary shifts are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:45 PM to 6:00 PM. There is also the possibility to assist with additional After School Programming at our main Club Space (LRC) as needed and available. These additional shifts include Mondays and Fridays from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
• Coverage or scheduling opportunities may also arise for Professional Development (PD) Day Programs (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), as well as Fall and Spring Break Camps (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). While the length of these shifts may vary, you would need to be available for the full duration during these times.
• The start date is flexible, with the potential to begin as soon as possible to ensure sufficient time for training.
• Schedules will be made according to both your availability and the needs of the Club. If for whatever reason you are unable to work, it is your responsibility to find somebody to replace you for that shift. In addition, it is your responsibility to connect with the Coordinator and the Program Lead prior to your shift, by text only, to let them know of the changes.
• Staff meetings will be scheduled once a month for 1-hour sessions, in addition to your regular Willow Park shifts, on designated days. If a staff meeting falls on a day when you're not scheduled to work, you will be asked to come in for a one-hour shift prior to the meeting, resulting in a total of two hours of work for that day.
