Summary
Provide support to high-impact areas of the student-athlete
experience to include, but not limited to: academic excellence, the
education and development of skills to foster holistic well-being,
the promotion of leadership skills and strategies, and civic
engagement within the department, university, and community.
Provide support in accordance with the holistic model for
student-athlete support guidelines from the NCAA, and in accordance
with all NCAA, conference, and university requirements. This person
should utilize a balanced and inclusive approach to support
individuals, teams, and the department in achieving their goals and
promoting continued development.
Responsibilities
● Work directly with the Director of Student-Athlete Wellness and
Clinical Counselor to coordinate student-athlete support services
and education related to student-athlete mental and physical
health. Core focus areas may include coping skills and strategies,
stress management, financial literacy, sleep education, sport
nutrition, time management, career development and readiness,
sexual violence prevention, substance use, and other areas as
assigned.
● Oversee Leadership Academy and work collaboratively with the
Leadership Academy committee members, consisting of coaches and
administrative staff, to plan and execute events and educational
programs which align with the holistic model for student-athlete
support guidelines and developing needs expressed by
student-athletes.
● Work directly with the Assistant Athletic Director - NCAA
Compliance & Student-Athlete Academic Success to develop
academic recovery plans for ineligible student-athletes.
● Work with student-athletes to outline appropriate educational
plans, clarify academic and long-term goals, improve
decision-making skills, evaluate degree progression, and discover
additional resources designed to enhance their collegiate
experiences.
● Collaborate with campus and community partners to assist with
student-athlete professional and career advising.
● Creates, organizes, executes, evaluates career development
programs for all Student-Athletes. Helps prepare student-athletes
for participation in Career Fair and other signature campus events
for career acquisition.
● Serve as a liaison from the Athletic Department with The Waino
Wahtera Center for Student Success, the Dean of Students’ Office,
Center for Diversity and Inclusion, Career Services, departmental
academic advisors, learning centers, and other departments as
needed to connect student-athletes with appropriate resources to
support their development.
● Serve on the Michigan Tech Division of Inclusion and Equity
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Sense of Belonging Positive
Action Team
● Assist with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meetings,
activities, and civic engagement activities.
● Assist with the development of staff/coach training
opportunities, workshops, and discussions related to
student-athlete, team, and department development and
well-being.
● Foster relationships between the department and the community
through targeted outreach and partnerships.
● Serve on additional campus committees as assigned and represent
the Athletic Department at various campus functions and
events.
● Effectively manage communication with colleagues, campus
partners, and community partners.
● Attend departmental, university, regional, conference and
national training, conferences and events.
● Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and
applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University
continuous improvement initiatives.
● Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday
work.
● Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in
the areas of collegiate athletics, student advising, student
affairs, helping professions, public health, holistic health, or a
related field.
Required Experience
● One year professional or administrative experience.
● Experience working in undergraduate higher education student
services or a closely related area.
● Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
● Experience using computers and operating basic software
packages.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
● Master’s degree
● One year experience working in collegiate athletics.
● Experience as a collegiate student-athlete.

● Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
● Excellent individual, small group, and large group presentation
skills
● Demonstrated ability to use judgment when handling sensitive
and/or confidential information.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural

faculty, and staff.
● Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work

● Proven ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential
information, including knowledge of FERPA and other NCAA compliance
regulations.
● Availability to work some weekends and evenings on an as needed
basis for events, educational sessions, and/or workshops.
● Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to,
working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of
belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work
for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and
viewpoints.
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
● Work will be done in an office environment where noise levels are
usually low to moderate
Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment
