Description Your role at GEI. GEI’s Washington DC area offices (Washington DC, Rockville MD and Charlottesville VA) continue to grow and are seeking an entry-level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer. Under supervision of more senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing field and engineering design efforts. Field activities will include coordination and documentation of geotechnical and environmental soil borings; installation of wells and geotechnical instrumentation; collection of groundwater and soil samples; and oversight and documentation during construction. This individual will also provide support to ongoing design efforts that include preparation of design documents for foundations and excavations support systems; ground improvement; instrumentation; and environmental work. Projects include private developments, public infrastructure work, maritime, and others and typically include shallow and deep foundations, ground improvement, earth retention systems, and geotechnical instrumentation.
The desired skills include construction observation/ management, geotechnical and structural design, instrumentation design and interpretation, and technical specification support. Familiarity with basic excavation support design and foundation design is a plus. Other responsibilities include:
