Distinguishing Features of the Class
• Under the supervision of the Chief of Police, is responsible for routine maintenance of police building and police vehicles.
Examples of Work
Examples listed below are illustrative only. They are not intended to include all duties which may be assigned, neither are they intended to exclude other duties which may be assigned to this class.
• Responsible for minor/routine maintenance and repairs of police building and equipment as well as police vehicles including transporting of police vehicles to and from shop for repairs and other tasks of routine difficulty.
• Responsible for ordering of supplies and materials for this purpose.
• Responsible for supervision of custodial staff and Monroe City Jail inmates released on trustee status to assist in the maintenance of the police buildings and grounds.
Minimum Qualification
• Some knowledge of the principles and techniques of building maintenance; some knowledge of the principles and techniques of vehicle maintenance; some knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in building and vehicle maintenance; some knowledge of safety procedures.
• Must have and maintain a Valid LA Driver License.
• Must be able to work with limited supervision. Ability to follow simple instructions.
• Ability to maintain satisfactory work relationships with other employees of the Department and the public.
• Some experience in semi-skilled maintenance work preferred.
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements
• Works outside in all kinds of weather, works on ladders; required standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, working in cramped or awkward positions; may encounter electrical shocks or burns; exposed to dust and dirt, exposed to hazardous equipment.
Qualification Requirements
• Before employment, must pass a medical examination administered by an approved physician to certify good health and physical abilities sufficient for the performance of the duties of the position. Must be willing to provide personal information to be used in and must submit to a thorough background investigation.
