The Cleveland Clinic's clinical departments of Orthopaedics and Rheumatology are ranked among the top in the US. In 2022, a central biorepository was founded that enables systematic prospective banking of tissue samples from patients undergoing surgery for musculoskeletal conditions. Cleveland Clinic researchers are also deeply engaged with the Cleveland Clinic – IBM Discovery Accelerator - a ten-year partnership to accelerate biomedical discovery and innovation through novel computing platforms and artificial intelligence.
The Director of Sports Medicine Research will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. They will work with the research directors of the other orthopaedic sections, as well as the Vice Chair for Research within the Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Institute, to shepherd the extremely important academic and research mission of the Institute at-large.
