Primary Purpose

The Public Service Assistant is a civilian unarmed position with no arrest or criminal enforcement powers who performs his/her duties with latitude for independent judgment. This position is responsible for the performance of office and field activities such as augmenting sworn law enforcement deputies with road and beach patrol, non-criminal law enforcement, special calls for service and operational details not requiring a sworn deputy. Such duties include report writing, conducting routine patrol, traffic control, minor crashes, escort details, beach services task, and executing special administrative assignments as directed by the chain of command.

Education and Qualification Requirements
• Minimum: High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Type 25 WPM accurately
• Valid Florida Driver’s License
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Basic knowledge of general office equipment
• Geographic knowledge of the county
• Knowledge of County Codes, Florida Statutes, regulations, and ordinances

Duties
• Complete assignments/special projects as directed
• Compose, generate, submit reports/forms/legal documents/accreditation reports
• Provides general assistance/information to public
• Provide notary service
• Attend meetings, training sessions, and seminars/conferences as directed/required
• Administers first aid/CPR
• Utilize radio communication
• Enter and process information in applicable computer systems
• Provide VIN Verification
• Patrol assigned zones/parking areas/beach assignments
• Review/resolve parking related issues and complaints
• Removes hazards from roadway
• Issues non-moving motor vehicle violation citations
• Arranges towing of illegally parked/abandoned vehicles
• Respond to traffic crashes and assist parties involved
• Conduct minor traffic crash investigations
• Generate and analyze data/information describing crash events
• Establishes cause of crash
• Monitor and report road/traffic conditions and hazards
• Enforce non-criminal traffic signals
• Direct traffic flow and report major traffic problems
• Investigate non-Law Enforcement calls
• Respond and assist with non-suspect and not in progress calls in a timely manner
• Provide escort details
• Take custody of evidence/property
• Testifies at trails hearings, grand juries, or depositions
• Conduct monthly inspections of all ATVs, Slide x Sides, trailer, and spare fleet vehicles
• Start all beach service equipment a minimum twice weekly
• Maintain fuel cans at all beach services office/locations
• Transport vehicles/equipment to and from beach offices/locations, county garage, and dealership
• Assist the Intelligence Unit with the LPR program
• Recover, deploy, troubleshoot, provide maintenance, and oversight to the LPR trailers
