SUMMARY
As part of a growing company and safety team, the Safety Manager for Underground Operations will be responsible for development and implementation of safety policies, programs, procedures, training, and site safety plans related to underground utility services performed by qualified persons (qualified non-electrical workers and qualified electrical workers)—in compliance with regulatory requirements, customer requirements, and industry best practices.
The Safety Manager will work collaboratively with field management and crews to ensure safety policies, programs, plans, and procedures are implemented, understood, and properly and consistently executed by operations personnel.
The position requires excellent communication, inter-personal, teamwork, project management, and computer skills, and requires travel.

REQUIREMENTS:
· Associate’s (two-year) degree; bachelor's degree preferred
· Five (5) or more years of utility industry experience, preferably in power transmission and distribution, including underground
· Three (3) to five (5) years of safety experience, which includes responsibilities for writing safety policies, programs, and procedures and developing and delivering safety training to employees
· Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) certification preferred.
· Detailed knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulatory requirements
· Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Teams
· Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to speak clearly and confidently to employees, supervisors, management, and customers. Must be able to write using proper spelling, grammar, and style.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The position may also require the employee to occasionally bend, crouch, kneel, squat, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 pounds, utilize hand and power tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, drill), and work with or around chemicals (including pesticides).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Position requires working in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, freezing temperatures, uneven terrain, and exposure to poisonous plants, insects, animals, and allergens. The position may also require entry into confined or enclosed spaces. The employee may also be exposed to chemicals (e.g., pesticides, coatings), energized electrical equipment, and noise exceeding 85 decibels.
TRAVEL:
Position requires nationwide (and possibly international) overnight travel, ranging from 25% to 75%.
