Principal/Mission Operations Development Engineer - Space Systems (Gilbert AZ)

Essential Functions:

1. Provide mission operations support to NGSS Satellite programs.
2. Support system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test, and formal program milestones.
3. Work with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellites.
4. Conduct testing using simulators and resolve discrepancies.
5. Support the development and testing of procedures, scripts, telemetry pages, and other products derived from vendor provided documentation.
6. Develop test procedures and test execution for system level, end-to-end tests with the spacecraft.
7. Support mission readiness activities including mission rehearsals, mission timeline development, and post launch test development.
8. Support launch, including shift work, for instrument and spacecraft checkout activities.
9. Monitor vehicle state of health across all subsystems.
10. Perform short and long-term telemetry trending.
11. Track space vehicle configuration, to include both hardware, software, and configurable item parameters.
12. Support anomaly resolution efforts.
13. Make modifications to existing operations procedures to incorporate lessons learned from in-flight performance. Develop new procedures as required.
14. Provide status reporting through both the functional and program reporting branches.
15. Provide support to multiple programs.
16. Maintain standards associated with the established Integrated/Developmental Operations functional group processes.
17. Support internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented communications.
18. Possess outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
19. May require shift work and travel ~ 20% of the time for simulation/rehearsal and launch support.

This position can be filled at a level 2 or level 3.

Basic Qualifications:

1. For Engineer Level: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and 2 years' experience; 0 years with Masters. Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
2. Experience with at least one S/C Subsystem (ADCS/GNC, command and data handling, communications, power, Thermal, flight software, orbital planning, and dynamics, etc.).
3. System engineering experience or significant classwork in system engineering or system design.
4. Experience writing technical documents for internal or external customers.
5. Experience with scripting.
6. Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.
7. Experience with LabView and Simics.
8. Experience in an operational environment.

For Principal Level: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline and 5 years' experience; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. Experience can be considered in lieu of degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Ability to work within a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission success.
2. Support of readiness activities to include Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), Mission Rehearsals (MRs), Day In The Life (DITL) and daily operations testing.
3. Experience with spacecraft launch campaigns.
4. Familiarity with training and certification programs for space system operators.
5. Experience working on government systems and/or government process environment.
6. Current Active Security Clearance (TS/SCI).
7. Prior experience conducting on-orbit mission operations or resolving satellite/ground system anomalies.
8. Experience with PERL scripting.

Salary Range: $75,300 - $112,900

Salary Range 2: $92,600 - $139,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
