The Vacancy

The role of Technology Manager, Automation Transformation within the Industrial Transformation Group, is responsible for providing leadership and delivery of a specific function and/or for the technical delivery of large programmes of work for customers across a broad range of sectors including food and drink, construction, aerospace, defence and security.

Collaborating with colleagues in the Automation Transformation team you will deliver the objectives of the team and the wider Technology Adoption Department and Industrial Transformation Group.

Main Responsibilities:
• Leading projects with manufacturing clients at their site(s)
• Running client discovery workshops to identify and explore relevant information
• Scoping out potential opportunities for the deployment of manufacturing best practice and technology application
• Evaluating opportunities to define work packages with clear value propositions
• Scoping and delivering programmes of work to deliver a step change in volume, quality or efficiency by introducing new equipment, processes and working methods into an existing production system
• Scoping/delivering programmes of work to up-scale and industrialise prototype production
• Running workshops to identify suitable technology opportunities to support strategic growth
• Developing pilot programmes for technology projects, which may include planning for technology selection
• Technical leadership of client facing projects, to include the leadership of project teams comprising engineers from across the Industrial Transformation Group i.e. Business, Digital, Automation, Technology and Sustainability Transformation and MTC Technology Groups i.e. Advanced Production Systems (APS), Digital Engineering (DE), Component Manufacturing Technologies (CMT) and AMTC Future Skills team
• Train, be approved and operate as a Technical Governor on nominated projects
• Deliver work packages from the resulting Automation Transformation project framework which prepare the business for automation/technology insertion resulting from deploying the following standard products
• Automation discovery project framework
• Feasibility project framework
• Supplier engagement project framework
• Maintaining and developing system integrator database supply chain
• Support the Technology Groups in work packages to develop the technology solutions
• Perform technical and administrative roles to ensure effective delivery of MTC’s business.
• The Technology Manager will be responsible for teams within projects and potentially within Industrial Transformation Group so must have the following attributes and skills:
• * a persuasive personality able to explain technical concepts to varying audiences
• * well-developed problem-solving abilities and strong analytical skills
• * manufacturing engineering experience, ideally gained in a production relevant environment or equipment provider
• * knowledge of the specific technology landscape and providers within your industry.

Person Specification

The Technology Manager, Automation Transformation, is critical in leading and guiding project stakeholders i.e. the customer, 3rd party specialist technology partners and MTC resources in defining and deploying technology associated with industrial projects.

You will be articulate and demonstrate competent communication and presentation skills and be comfortable communicating and working at all levels in a business from operators to executive teams.

Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
• The Technology Manager will be involved in guiding MTC customers in the application of manufacturing best practice and technology and shall have a strong working knowledge of the following:
• Automation and robotics technologies, solutions and typical applications
• Business /manufacturing improvement techniques e.g. value stream mapping, process mapping, lean techniques
• Manufacturing operational efficiency improvement methods e.g. flow and layout
• Business process re-engineering for innovation
• Leadership and change management
• Coaching and mentoring for performance improvement
• Supply chain assessments and strategy
• Microsoft office 365 product set
• The above should be backed by experience in one or more key engineering disciplines, such as manufacturing systems, mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics, production, chemical, biochemical, civil, materials, metallurgy, ideally at degree level.
