Our Aerospace & Defence business in East Windsor Connecticut are recruiting for an HSSE Specialist to join the team.
As HSSE Specialist, you will provide support to the Western Hemisphere operations in critical topics such as customer’s HSSE prequalification processes , EthosEnergy third party vetting, and Environmental Framework actions. You will also support in the Learning Management System focused to HSSE topics. This system tracks, monitors and document safety performance data, HSSE policies and procedures, Business units monthly injuries and man-hours and produces quarterly reports.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead the compliance of state, federal and internal governance requirements related to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental. Some examples of the required activities are: - Annual Tier II Submission and Data collection - Biennial Haz waste Report - Annual Confined Spaces Assessment, Waste Min plan, SWPPP, Hoist Emergency Coordinator training & Fume Hood Testing - Annual Forklift Training with FP Aspect - Annual Fire Drill and Map Review - Annual First Aid/BBP & Fire Extinguisher Training - Annual Elevated Surfaces, Water determinations - Annual TRI-Form R - Quarterly Hoist Inspection Audit - Quarterly SAA, Universal Waste Audit SWPPP Collection - Quarterly Haz waste Manifest Review - Monthly SWPPP, Hazardous Waste Audit & Inspection - Monthly Paint Booth Audits - Monthly Hot Work & Forklift Inspection Audit - Monthly GHS Check & NSR Air Permit - SWPPP SMR data - DOT Training & Registration Due
• Ethos Learning Management System Training, Guidance, and implementation support
• Act as a liaison between company employees and contracted Learning Management System (MLS); opening and tracking tickets until closure and having the ability to resolve multifaceted issues that may require research and decision making skills.
• Assist leadership in planning company training learning paths that will meet training objectives; identifies any gaps (resource, training, equipment, etc.) and works with the management team to ensure they are resolved prior to execution of training.
• Answer inbound employee calls on a daily basis and perform administrative duties on items such as account and status inquiries, LMS system administration coaching/training and make outbound return calls or TEAMS meetings as needed.
• Maintain a comprehensive repository of relevant instructions on how to manage the LMS in the company’s SharePoint and ensures training related information is current.
• Execute other related training management activities as required, such as but not limited to, finding third party training for site/product line specific requirements. Identify and Evaluate Hazards
• Use experience, historical data, and other sources to review systems where needed.
• Evaluating probability and severity of loss events.
• Analyze Loss Event Reports and data, to identify causes, trends, and relationships.
• Determine the need for safety surveys and appraisals. Develop Hazard Control Programs
• Develop, review, update, and train employees on applicable H&S programs and procedures.
• Develop methods that integrate safety performance into operations and productivity goals.
• Support the management of key H&S programs such as safe
• Monitors industry regulatory trends and partners with senior leadership teams on OSHA and other regulatory agency preparedness procedures to proactively address potential challenges. Implement and Manage Hazard Control Programs
• Reports such incidents to site management and corporate management by internal reporting policies.
• Conduct, manage, and track H&S-related training through the GPiLearn training website and other facility records.
• Investigation with site personnel of EHS events to include near misses, first aid events, recordable injuries, spills, and security incidents, via root cause analysis. Ensures that effective corrective actions are implemented to address root causes and to prevent the recurrence of a similar incident. Evaluate Effectiveness of Hazard Control Programs
• Develop methods to evaluate the costs and effectiveness of hazard control program components of systems and organizations towards the overall effectiveness.
• Develop or help develop management accountability and audit programs that assess the safety performance of entire systems and organizations and involve both deterrents and incentives.
• Continuously measure and analyze H&S performance and recommend appropriate actions.
• Special projects as assigned.
Required Skills / Knowledge
• Ability to deal with complex safety situations is required.
• Candidate must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently.
• Have good oral and written communication skills.
• Have good interpersonal and leadership skills and demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
• Have demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
• Have ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
• Have established project management skills
Experience
• 5 years as occupational health and safety professional experience is required.
• 5 years of experience working as safety professional supporting manufacturing and repair preferred.
Education Requirements
• Degree in Safety or a related field preferred.
• OSHA 10/OSHA 30 or other safety certificates preferred.
• Education or experience in industrial hygiene is a plus.
Physical Requirements
• Position requires periods of intense physical exertion, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
• Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to climb and perform a function up to a 12-ft ladder.
• The position requires reasonable frequent travel
