Position Summary

The Coordinator, Student Services, Accessibility is responsible for
interpretation and application of the regulations of Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973, and College policies and provisions for accommodation of
Dallas College students with disabilities. This position serves as
primary point person regarding services, assistive technology (AT)
and other accommodations for students with physical, sensory,
psychological, and/or learning disabilities.

Responsibilities include assisting in arrangement of appropriate
academic adjustments and/or support services for students,
including demonstrations and training with adaptive equipment
and/or software, materials in alternate formats, specialized
tutoring, and alternative testing conditions which require the use
of adaptive technology. Also responsible for encouraging and
supporting an environment throughout the college that is
accessible, both architecturally and attitudinally, for students
with disabilities. Promotes equal access through coordination of
efforts with on and off-campus entities, programs, and
agencies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is
required through professional development activities.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information exposed to
in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other
employees.
• Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparably
complex college/university with a proven track record of enhancing
quality, institutional excellence, and student success.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from the
full range of diverse populations.
• An appreciation of shared governance and strong ability to work
effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty,
students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both
within and outside Dallas College.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding student
accessibility and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
• Excellent time management, and organizational and
problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of student development theory;
knowledge of student due process policies/procedures; knowledge and
understanding of the current issues and trends in student affairs
and student development.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and
information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the
Dallas College community network.

Key Responsibilities
• Leverage’s technology platforms to support students with
disabilities.
• Consult with medical professionals and other specialists
regarding referrals for accessibility and disability evaluations
and appropriate accommodations.
• Create and maintain a confidential database for student
files.
• Oversee and monitor progress of students with disabilities,
helping students to advocate for themselves and to articulate their
unique accommodation needs.
• Assess assistive-technology and adaptive equipment needs and
collaborate with IT for support, and with Institutional Advancement
in seeking grants and additional funding for programs and
equipment.
• Provide information to prospective students and parents
regarding services provided and disability documentation
requirements, as well as respond to public inquiries.
• Develop and implement in-service training for staff and
faculty.
• Present accessibility and disability information at campus
events for students, faculty, and staff.
• Completes required Dallas College Professional Development
training hours per academic year.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office
environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals
with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and
responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications
• Associates in related field. Official transcripts
required.
• Two (2) years of demonstrable administrative experience
• Experience working with ADA Compliance.
• Demonstrated success working with diverse communities.
• Excellent interpersonal relations skills.
• Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 am to
5:00 pm workday especially during heavy registration peak times
including nights and weekends.
• Position is eligible for flex work with supervisor
approval.
• Bilingual or multilingual preferred.​
