Job Description

Do you have a passion for enabling people to thrive in their community?

We are looking for an enthusiastic Family Support Worker to join our team supporting the resettlement of refugees in Cambridge city and the surrounding areas. As a proud City of Sanctuary, you will be responsible for welcoming the families to their new home and ensuring they have access to everything they need to settle and thrive in the community. This will include supporting families to navigate the systems in the UK, from assisting them to register with a health surgery, to ensuring their children are enrolled in local schools.

The families we support speak a wide range of languages, however for this role we are looking for someone who is fluent in Dari and English. Individuals will have their own experiences and may need specific support with this. You will assess the family’s needs and goals and enable them to achieve these, such as by accessing English for Speakers of Other Language (ESOL) classes or identifying skills and qualifications they hold to enter employment.

You will liaise with internal and external partner agencies, such as landlords to support families with sustaining their tenancy, or community organisations to get families involved with social events and activities to benefit their wellbeing.

If this is the type of work that is true to your values and you want a really rewarding employment opportunity, then come and join our team that aims to be representative of the clients we serve, working for and alongside residents.

Experience of working in support is essential. We are also looking for candidates with a passion for diversity, equity and inclusion, and a drive to improve systems for clients who local government may not traditionally be great at engaging with.

You will need to be a strong communicator, self-motivated and well organised, and exhibit agile and flexible ways of working. Most importantly, you will be passionate about the work you do. As the role will involve visiting various clients in dispersed locations, you will need to have digital skills (such as Microsoft Office 365) that enable you to work remotely.

The role is subject to an enhanced DBS check. If you are looking to make a real difference, then come join the team.

What we can offer:
• Family friendly policies
• Agile and Flexible working
• Generous annual leave allowance 25 days’ per annum, rising to 30 days’ after five years continuous service; plus 8 days public holidays (pro rata for part time).
• Annual leave purchasing scheme
• Access to the highly valued Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
• A variety of learning and development opportunities via a range of sources and methods
• Confidential advice and support via the Employee Assistance Programme
• Health and well-being programme
• Subsidy for public transport
• Staff reward and recognition framework

Hours: 37 hours per week.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday

Contract: Fixed Term for 1-year

Salary: £36,123 - £40,475 per annum (City Pay Band 5)

Location: The role is hybrid. You will spend a significant amount of time visiting families you support around Cambridge city and the surrounding villages, so will need to be able to travel independently as required. There is an expectation that you will work from the office (Mandela House, Regent Street, Cambridge CB2 1BY) at least 1 day per month alongside the team.
