The Enterprise Assistant Director of Operations (Cruise Services) position reports to the Enterprise Director of Operations. This position is directly responsible for overseeing Port Everglades functions and employees in the Operations Division Cruise Services Section.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, management, or a closely related field.
Requires six (6) years of progressive work in port operations and/or cruise management or closely related experience.
- Responsible for the planning, administration, and direction of the Cruise Services Section, which includes cruise service liaisons, parking coordinator, skilled trade supervisors, and terminal maintenance workers.
- Responsible for managing all aspects of cruise operations, including cruise services staff, personal interaction with cruise lines representatives, cruise terminal functionality and cleanliness, parking, shuttles, wayfinding/signage, and dockside provisioning activity in coordination with the Chief Harbormaster and Assistant Director of Operations (Vessel Scheduling and Docks).
- Routine day-to-day operations may include coordinating with cruise line executives, shore staff, stevedores, shippers, ground transportation companies, parking operations contractors, ship agents, and local, state, and federal authorities on an as-needed basis to respond to customer needs, resolve disputes, and assist with interpreting policies and regulations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to develop various Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to demonstrate the performance of the Operations Division Cruise Services Section. Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports.
- Serve as the primary dedicated in-person contact to enhance the guest experience by providing solutions and information for each cruise line, cruise vessel agent, guest, and crew to assist with meeting stated needs during the ship's time in port. This role ensures all cruise operations inside and outside the terminal run smoothly, including monitoring parking availability, terminal security, and traffic issues.
- Leads the Operations Division Cruise Services Section in developing and monitoring the progress of Work Orders for maintenance, repair, and provisioning of cruise terminals and parking garages and liaises with the Facilities Maintenance Division to ensure all terminal and parking garage repairs are completed timely.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Facilities Maintenance (Physical Assets) for cruise terminal loading bridge scheduling and operational readiness; coordinate with Harbormasters for timely notification of vessel scheduling and any subsequent updates and changes.
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Operations (Vessel Scheduling and Docks) and lead the weekly cruise operations meetings. Attend other Port management meetings, as required, such as agenda review, franchise review, milestones, and other project meetings to provide relevant Operations updates.
- Work closely with the Operations Supervisor to ensure cruise-related safety checks are conducted weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually and that Work Orders are submitted to the Facilities Maintenance Division.
- Manage human resources and labor relations issues related to the Cruise Services Section, including staffing, performance, recognition, and discipline. Supervise individual and operational performance and productivity for employees of varying job titles and professions.
- Work with Port Human Resources on recruitment of the Cruise Services Section positions, discuss performance progress on employees’ goals and objectives and prepare performance appraisals on a timely basis.
- Review daily activity reports from each major functioning area of the Cruise Services Section; track parking revenue and make decisions on purchases, overtime, and payroll.
- Oversee the Skilled Trades Supervisors to develop daily/weekly/monthly and off-season work schedules of Maintenance Workers (Terminals) and Maintenance Crew Supervisors to ensure sufficient personnel are in each terminal to meet cruise and non-cruise activities and third-party requests for cruise terminal usage.
- Work directly with the Skilled Trades Supervisors and Maintenance Crew Supervisors to ensure that employee attendance, performance, and any other work-related concerns are effectively addressed.
- Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs and Marketing, who works directly with C-level cruise executives, CLIA, FCCA, and other organizations to strengthen marketing objectives. Work with the Director of External Affairs and Marketing to expand cruise business at the Port and position the Port on national and global levels as a leader in the cruise industry.
- Support the Director of External Affairs and Marketing through the provision of resources for outside events such as SeaTrade Cruise Global, meetings, training exercises, and other third-party uses of cruise terminals.
- Serve as the operational lead in conjunction with the Director of Operations to accomplish the Operations Division objectives related to cruise services as identified in the Broward County Strategic Plan and Port Everglades Strategic Business Plan.
- Work with the Director of Operations and Assistant Director of Operations (Vessel Scheduling and Docks), contributing to the Operations Division emergency preparedness planning while ensuring local, state, and federal regulatory compliance.
- Perform related work as assigned.
Preferences:
- 10 years of high-level experience managing cruise terminal/ship operations, ground transportation, cruise passenger customer service
- 10 years of experience managing a large workforce of over 30 people
- 10 years of experience managing contract negotiations
- 6 years of direct experience managing division/section-level budgets
