Job Description:
The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Fairfield University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track assistant professor positions to begin in the Fall semester of the 2025-2026 academic year, pending final budgetary approval. Although the area of specialization within psychology is open for both positions, we hope to fill one position with an applicant whose teaching and/or research experiences relate to cultural psychology, broadly conceived. Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in psychology or a related field, but strong ABD candidates who expect their degree by Fall 2025 will also be considered.
Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester. In addition to introductory and specialty courses in their area of expertise, candidates will teach required courses such as psychological statistics and/or research methods, and may also teach courses to support our growing graduate program in industrial/organizational psychology. Candidates are expected to establish an active research program that can involve undergraduates and engage in appropriate service to the department, the university, and/or the broader community.
The department consists of sixteen full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. Psychology is currently the largest major in the College of Arts & Sciences, and the department also offers a major in behavioral neuroscience and a Master’s program in industrial/organizational psychology. There is a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty research that is supported by departmental and university resources (e.g., student subject pool, student research grant programs), and a growing institutional emphasis on the health sciences. We also have Psychology and Neuroscience Clubs, a large internship program, and chapters of Sigma Xi and Psi Chi.
The minimum starting salary for those with a Ph.D. at the time of appointment is $97,602, and the benefits for the position are highly competitive. Fairfield University is a Jesuit institution, consistently ranked as a top comprehensive university in New England, located in the scenic shoreline community of Fairfield, CT, one hour from New York City along Long Island Sound. Our five Colleges and Professional Schools enroll approximately 5,000 undergraduate and 1,300 graduate students.
