TITLE: Computer Technician
REPORTS TO: Director of Instructional Technology
LENGTH: Twelve Month Year
LOCATION: District Wide
Job Goal: To work with a team of technicians, under the direction of the Director of Instructional Technology, who is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrades of all computer-related equipment and software.
Qualifications: 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related field.
Experience:
● Any experience in providing service/repair to networked PCs and peripherals in a Windows environment.
Minimum Skills:
● Troubleshoot and repair computers and peripherals.
● Must have excellent communication skills with users and vendors.
● Must be self-motivated, service-oriented, able to work well in a team environment, and able to handle and prioritize problems that come up unexpectedly and/or simultaneously.
Desired Skills:
● Be familiar with a networked Windows Active Directory environment.
● Knowledge of Google Workspace is a plus.
● Understanding of the Internet and email functions. Experience in a networked environment.
● Willing to learn functions and operation of new hardware, peripherals, and software applications as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to):
● Repair computers, related hardware, and software used for all instructional and administrative purposes
● Install, setup, configure, and inventory hardware and software purchases
● Conduct normal and preventative maintenance, cleaning, upgrades, replacement, repairs, and backups of all hardware, software, and networks for instructional and administrative use.
● Work with the Technology department to maintain networks for instructional and administrative use
● Maintain inventory records, work orders, and repair instruction information for all equipment in a centrally designated place determined by the Technology Department.
● Contact vendors, technical support centers, and online resources for assistance related to repair problems.
● Maintain communication with building and district-level personnel regarding equipment operations.
● Provide troubleshooting information and technical assistance to staff.
● Configure workstations for Internet and email access
● Assist in setting up equipment for presentations, meetings, in-service days, and workshops
● Arrange the movement of hardware and local area networks as planned during the school year for instructional and administrative use.
● Distributes and prepares computers for summer school classes as designated by the administration.
● Travel to various district sites to assist users and to identify and rectify problems.
● Diagnose problems and choose the appropriate resolution of problems with district hardware, software, and networks.
● Assist with setting up and installing digital signage and interactive boards across the district.
● Assist with the installation of networking equipment.
● Assist with audio and visual components in school auditoriums.
● Support in pulling data cabling and terminating data jacks.
● Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and the ability to work efficiently.
● Exhibit excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
● Participate in special projects as designated by the Director of Instructional Technology.
● Performing other job-related duties as requested.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone and enter data into a computer terminal; hear and understand speech at normal levels; possess physical agility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; bend, stoop, squat, sit on the floor, climb stairs, reach overhead, move light furniture and/or equipment, walk several hours per day in hallways and outside. The ability to ascend or descend ladders using both feet and hands or arms. Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures). Specific vision abilities required for this job include the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to angry students or parents, and neighborhoods with high levels of violence potential.
