The City of McMinnville is seeking responsible, team-oriented, and enthusiastic individuals to support our recreation programs.
You must be at least 14 years old to apply. This is a part-time non-benefited seasonal position; flexible hours based on instructors’ availability and program needs.
There are three levels of Recreation Program Instructors:
• Levels 1: Follows curriculum, has some experience/expertise, and supervision readily available
• Level 2: Includes level 1, plus develops class curriculum, has experience and expertise in the instructing topic, and receives less supervision.
• Level 3: Includes level 1 and 2, plus has certifications/expert knowledge in the instructing topic.

• Responsible for instruction of class in a given field of skill or talent to participants.
• Responsible for planning, organizing, and instructing classes.
• Assist in developing ideas for new class programs in order to offer a quality program.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate required equipment for class.
• Provide customer service to patrons.
• Maintain a safe and controlled environment.
• Maintain records and reports, including participant usage records.
• Act in a professional manner at all times, must be able to work with patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
• Participate in committees when requested.
• Maintain proficiency in job requirements which may include attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility, which may require travel.
• Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
• Maintain confidentiality, data integrity, and comply with all related city, state, and federal standards related to confidentiality.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties as described.
Knowledge of:
• Curriculum for designated class and/or program of focus.
• General principles of instruction/teaching.
Skill and Ability to:
• Multitask, problem solve, and remain calm in tense situations.
• Walk, climb, bend, and stoop to complete tasks.
• Exemplify traits that reflect the City’s culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES:
• Must have a current certification, if applicable to class or program
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification (within 60 days of hire)
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/TRAINING:
Bilingual Spanish/English
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position requires some (40-60%) ability to use dexterity and fine motor skills. Occasional (21-50% of the time) use of office equipment. The position requires moderate (40-60%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work require high degree of speed, agility, hand eye coordination and equipment operation. The work environment is protected with only some occasional hazards or obstacles (20–40%). There is a moderately low level of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are occasionally uncomfortable, with moderate (20-40%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have some responsibility for driving.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to recreation assistants.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of the Recreation Manager or Recreation Supervisor.
