Apply directly on City of Lakeway website. Hiring range: $71,430 - $91,181, DOE/DOQ. Signing bonus up to $10,000. Amount of bonus is based on experience. TMRS, 2:1, 7%.

Under the general supervision of the Police Chief or designee, conduct criminal follow-up investigations and initiate investigations involving vice, drugs, gangs, cyber-crime, organized crime and other criminal activities and threats. Work independently or with others in the department, employ investigative techniques and strategies to identify suspects and make arrests. Use modern technology to closely monitor criminal activity for early signs of crime patterns and trends. Make independent decisions and act quickly in emergencies. Use of tact, diplomacy, and good judgment required when in contact with the public. Maintain a positive attitude.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Testify completely and accurately in administrative, civil and criminal proceedings.
• May assume personal command of field situations which could include pursuits, major crime scenes, crimes with suspect(s), victim(s) and/or witness(es) on the scene by:
• coordinating a cooperative department response with Captains/ Lieutenant/ Sergeants;
• allocating personnel and other resources; prioritizing demands;
• requesting assistance, equipment or mutual aid when available resources are inadequate;
• notifying command staff promptly of major and high profile incidents.
• Conduct and direct complicated criminal, civil and administrative investigations, provide complete, accurate documentation, establish all elements of the incident.
• Interview suspect(s), victim(s), and/or witness(es) using tape recorders, video cameras, field notes, Miranda forms (adult and juvenile, witness locator forms, etc., in order to gather additional information and facts regarding an incident.
• Legally and within department policy, locate and interview adult and juvenile victims, witnesses, and suspects, thoroughly documenting all contacts.
• Pursue leads and witnesses vigorously, maintaining ongoing interaction with victims and witnesses to maximize effectiveness of criminal investigations and prosecutions.
• Initiate search warrants to bolster investigations, complete warrant “returns” and other appropriate documentation.
• Generate timely follow-up reports when significant additional information is obtained, or action taken. Close out cases as appropriate, including signing off on all property and evidence for disposition and assigning a case disposition classification.
• Coordinate any major crime information releases with the Public Information Officer to assure investigative information is protected while providing appropriate assistance to the media.
• Attend specialized training, present in-service training to Department employees and to others in the areas of developed expertise.
• May serve as the Juvenile Officer of the Department, including handling cases of missing persons and runaways.
• May attend special meetings of civic groups and other organizations related to crime prevention, investigation, and prosecution as well as to inform the public of goals and operation of the Police Department.
• Report deficiencies and malfunctions related to delivery of Police service to the Police Chief or designee; implement corrective action as directed.
• Assist patrol units, assuming duties thereof, as required. Take enforcement action as a peace officer when appropriate, including firearms qualification and use, and meet all other physical requirements of a police officer.
• Prepare for and testify in court using case files, chain of custody evidence, field notes, etc., in order to present the facts surrounding cases in a court of law. Testify completely and accurately in administrative, civil, and criminal proceedings. Coordinate with District and County Attorneys to maximize effectiveness of criminal prosecutions.
• Interact effectively and professionally with local, county, state, and federal officials.
• Make moral and ethical decisions that conform to law and other applicable regulations.
• Communicate courteously with the general public and answer questions that may arise about service, in a timely manner.
• Convey a positive professional image by action, communication, and appearance.
• Exhibit regular, reliable, and punctual attendance, which is an essential function of the job.
• Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
