Summary: Seeking an experienced high-level Accountant for up to 24 months to work in the Accounting and Financial Reporting unit with confidence, initiative, and attention to detail, performing in-depth accounting and financial reporting tasks with minimum supervision.
• Produce annual audited financial statements under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), researching and resolving accounting issues and implementing new accounting pronouncements (GASB) for US GAAP compliance.
• Assist in external audits, preparing and assembling Financial Reporting Audit Deliverables, and interacting with external auditors, examiners, and other City and State agencies.
• Assist in year-end financial closing process, reconciling benefit payment listings against accounting records.
• Implement the Financial Reporting and ACFR Reporting tool and draft/update Financial Reporting procedure manuals for the New York City Employee Retirement System (NYCERS).
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in corporate and/or governmental accounting, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, investment accounting, and financial reporting.
• Direct experience in preparing year-end financial statements for corporations and/or governmental entities.
• Experience working with external CPA auditors, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency, with ability to prioritize, manage tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to manage multiple accounting audit deadlines and deliverables, exercise initiative, and work independently, with professional judgement in accounting problem solving and troubleshooting.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience with finance and governmental entities, particularly public retirement systems.
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of accounting software, including proficiency in MS Excel and Word, with experience in advanced Excel functions a plus.
