Home Support Worker for Elderly Couple
Location: Kamloops, BC, Canada
We are seeking a dedicated Home Support Worker to provide compassionate care for an elderly couple residing in Kamloops. As their son, I am seeking assistance for my parents to ensure their well-being and safety while I attend to my professional commitments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the couple with daily activities, fostering social engagement, and ensuring their comfort and security.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide personal care assistance, including bathing, grooming etc.
• Assist with mobility and transfers, using proper techniques and equipment if and when needed.
• Assist in keeping the elderly couple in touch with the community by taking them to local community events or taking them for short walks, depending on how their health permits
• Remind the couple to take their medications as prescribed and assist with medication administration.
• Assist with planning and preparing nutritious meals based on dietary preferences and restrictions.
• Perform light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning, laundry, and tidying up the living space.
• Engage in conversation and companionship activities to promote social interaction and mental stimulation.
• Accompany the couple on outings, appointments, and errands as required.
• Monitor the couple's health and well-being, reporting any changes or concerns to family members or healthcare professionals.
• Responsible for getting groceries and running household errands
• Follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment.
• Maintain accurate records of care provided and report any incidents or observations as required.
Qualifications:
• Previous experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Compassionate and patient with a genuine desire to help others.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred but not required.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
