The Nevada Court of Appeals is currently accepting applications for law clerkships starting in Summer/Fall 2025.

As a law clerk, you'll work directly with a Judge, assisting in processing appeals and writ petitions. Your tasks will include legal research, drafting bench memos, preparing orders and opinions, and reviewing documents produced in chambers.

Clerkships are available for one year. Positions are based in Carson City and Las Vegas, offering a chance to experience Nevada's legal landscape firsthand.

Please note that the role may require occasional holiday, night, and weekend work, as well as periodic out-of-town travel.

• Review cases assigned to chambers.
• Conduct the necessary legal research in a thorough and meticulous manner.
• Prepare concise, well organized bench memos and orders.
• Handle original writ petitions and petitions for rehearing.
• Edit own work product and that of co-clerks.
• Review all current decisions published by this court.
• Keep abreast of decisions from other courts that may be applicable to pending Nevada cases.
• Carefully proofread orders and opinions.
• Attend oral arguments.
• Must have graduated with a Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school, preferably in the top 20%, by the time of the start of the clerkship.
• Law review or other journal experience very is desirable. Moot court and judicial externship experience greatly enhances an application.
• Law clerks must possess exceptional legal research and writing abilities, must be flexible, and must be motivated to work independently to produce high quality work in a fast-paced appellate environment.

Applicants are required to submit a Cover Letter, List of References, Resume, Writing Sample and Transcripts.

Please note the posted salary is based on the Employee/Employer paid contribution plan to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). The posted salary is subject to a 17.5% reduction as this amount is paid into PERS. This is refundable upon the end of employment but is subject to taxation.

Effective on or about July 1, 2024, the posted salary will increase by 11%.
